Default Lost keys.. 84' Toyota truck

I know a guy from another site with a 84' Toyota truck he aquired from a local impound lot, that has no keys.... he was wondering what a easy way to get the switch out without damaging the column, or any recommendations of getting it started? Can Toyota make a new key by using the VIN?

Thanks.

Yes Toyota can make a new key by using the VIN if you show them proof of ownership. Some dealers are more competent at it than others, however. My local dealer looked up the code wrong so the keys didn't fit.

Can't make one by the VIN on a truck that old. No way. But you can pull the key cylinder from the (PASSENGER !!!!!!) door and it has the key code stamped in to it. Take the cylinder with you and they can test the new key in that cylinder before you leave the Parts dept.

I Agree with above post.
A far as I know, this is the way it has been done for years.

BTW, if yu ever discover your Pass. door key cylinder pryed out and missing with no other damage or theft to your car...be prepared to re-key all the locks including the ign. key cylinders.

Yu are being set up for a car theft at some point!

Thieves will get that key code off the cylinder and make a copy to steal your car when convenient.

But as of late yu need the original chip key to start most cars .....unless yu had one of those AFTERMARKET remote engine starters installed. Then your Chip key is always disabled. Any cut key will work without need to program the chip like the original.
