Default '94 TRUCK 4x4 PERFORMANCE options....

I've had three of these Toy trucks, this being the first V6, and this one now has around 150k. (I've put MOST of the miles on it...) Due to bigger rubber, etc... and a general desire for performance, I've done the following over the years:

- K&N filtercharger kit
- Borla Exhaust
- Downey Headers
- High-flow cat
- "Black Magic" electric fan (no clutch-fan now...)
- Nology Hotwires
- Jacobs Ultracoil
- Centerforce Dual-Friction clutch
- Powerslot Rotors w/new (reman) calipers and Hawk pads
- Bridgestone Dueller 32" x 11.5" on AR centerline-type rims
- 3" Lift Kit (body)
- Bilstein's all the way around
- etc...

I can't think of any other stuff... might be something...

Anyway, these V6s were always "marshmallows" in the first place, and BIGger rubber, etc... doesn't help at all! With the assortment above, mine runs great and pulls stronger than a stock 2wd for sure, even w/larger rubber, but it is still no sports car!

Is there anything on these that someone can suggest to REALLY free up some more hp? (I have heard the cams are really conservative, for example...?) Have people pushed this V6 to high output for off-roading, etc... where some lessons can be taken for street?

Any specific experiences or input would be appreciated...

Thanks!

- crisp

There is a guy on yotatech.com who owns Sea to Sky Tuning who has made some Cams for the 3vze V6 that supposedly make a pretty good difference overall, or so he's posted from some Dino results. The discussion is about 5 or 6 pages long and it's found on the 86-95 pickups & 4runners board at yotatech.

Yes most definatly regear that beast, I am currently waiting to put in 5.29s in my baby when I finish the SAS to help turn the new 37's. With the stock ratio though the 3.0 is doing pretty good at maintaining hwy speed with the 35's on it now.

Definitely re-gear for more power. Downey also has some good 3VZE upgrades (headers), but anything short of turbo or supercharger is just not going to delivery much. Cams are a good option, but you're just moving around power to a different rPM range. If you re-gear, your cam selection might not match the new RPM ranges where you are doing your normal work.

So yeah- take all that cash you'd be dropping on engine stuff and put it into gears, you'll be very glad you did.

All I'm going to say is this. I got Downey Headers on my 93 T100 3.0 and the thing is loud. If you don't mind the sound (the loudness - at idle it sounds great, but it's a matter of taste when you get it on the freeway) I would say go for it. It definitely adds a bit more juice. I also have an 06 Mustang GT with long tube headers , X pipe and dual Magnaflow exhaust and I think my
T100 is still louder!
