Default 89 pick-up DLX Starter

Son was driving it when it stalled, tried to start it but the starter would just make a high pitched whine and act like it wasn't engaging. Installed a new starter and now the starter clicks like it's trying to engage but wont turn the motor over. Installed a new battery, still nothing any suggestions?

Dead alternator. Your electrical system was not making enough juice to keep the engine running, then it stalled because your battery was drained from running the engine ingition (and would not start). The click-click-click thing is the starter not able to fully engage becuase of low power. Same thing has happened to me twice over the years with the same exact engine.
