Default T100 bad gas milage

I recently put a cold air on my 1996 T100 and im getting 12 MPG city and highway combined. I put the stock airbox in and it runs 100% better. Does the cold air mess with the computer?

Allowing more air into the engine will naturally require more fuel. The engine computer will always make every attempt to keep the air fuel mixture the same. Cold air is actually more dense and better for making power.

You think that Toyota didn't think of this before they made the box the way it is?

Bummer. My '96 3.4L V6 gets almost the same mileage with a K&N,
which is about 16mpg combined in winter, 18mpg combined summer.
How long did you run the new intake? I read somewhere that the
computer takes a while to adjust, but probably not a full tank.

Jack D.

PS - First post here... '96 T100 Xcab 4x4, 128K; '97 4Runner, 145K,
both 3.4L V6.

I ran it for about 4 tanks i think between that, winter, and the bad wheel bearing is what caused the bad gas milage i just can't beleive that it would be so bad I even checked for leaks b/c i know the T-100's are known for fuel leaks from rotting fuel lines. I did notice 50 more miles to a tank with the Lucas Fuel Conditioner.

I have a 96 T-100 4X4 5 spd with TRD headers, K&N FilterCharger kit and I get 20 MPG at 65 MPH highway. Much less in town 14 to 16.5 mpg. I changed my front O2 sensor at 91K (have 92.5K now) because it showed being lazy. Did not respond quickly to changes, but eventually. Made a big difference. Most mechanic friends say the heated O2 sensors need replacing at 100K. Non-heated (1 or 2 wire) at 60K. Hope this helps.
