Default Just Installed Doug Thorley Headers!!

We started at about 2 and finished at 9. 7 hours isn't too bad for my first time ever doing headers! Everything worked out great though!

About the install... I did have to make a custom #12 wrench to get all the bolts.
Thanks Greg for your helpful tips from your install. If anyone installing them has any questions feel free to ask me. I did it all on jack stands in the driveway. I have all the Torque specs for everything thanks to my local shop foreman who is always willing to take the time to help me out.

I also have a extra set of brand new Toyota Exhaust Manifold/Header Gaskets and AI Gaskets. If anyone is interested I will be willing to sell them. Otherwise I am just going to return them.

About the power... It Rocks! The truck feels like it pulls so much harder! Especially when your only giving it 1/4 throttle! Just feels all around way more responsive! The exhaust sound is a lot more centralized to me now, rather than just that tone coming from the rear end. It is not bothersome in the least though. On the highway I couldn't even tell a difference.

I'll keep you guys updated on mileage and power as the ECU learns.

Again if you want to do the install and have any questions feel free to contact me.

Alan

Did you reset your ECU or did you leave in the same parameters to see the instant difference? I am thinking it would be interesting to NOT reset the ECU and then you will know how much of the change is due to the headers alone.

You are making me anxious, just a couple more weeks and I will be ordering mine!

Thanks for the offer, I will be looking for all the tips I can get once my headers arrive. I also have a friend that owns his own shop and he is going to help me install them, but I want to know all the "lessons learned" before I tackle mine.

What would a shop charge to install them? I don't think I would want to take that task on. But I would imagine 7 hours installation would be right expensive. I don't even know what the going labor rate is for that stuff. Any ideas?

Hey Greg-

Yes thanks to your help I did do those 2 first! I had to heat up and then bend my #12 open end wrench and then it was not a problem!

Toyota charges 9.5 hours or labor for the install... IMO F that!

Someone on here had them done at a shop and it cost $450.

If anyone in SoCal is interested... I could put on or help you put on your headers. I'm sure this time around it would only take about 4 hours give or take. I re-torqued mine yesterday and it took about 20 mins to get at all 16 nuts.

Keep in mind I still do have an extra set of Brand new OEM Toyota gaskets.

Alan

$85/hr here in SC.... hope it dont take 7 hrs ...Ill have to float a loan !!! two questions ?

1. What is the torque specs for the head bolts ?
2. How did you torque the inside ones that require the "bent wrench" to get to ?
3.did you use any thing on the headers at the gasket to help the seal (copper coat ect)

oops that was three !!

Yes that is a very nice truck! I was wondering the same thing about when you will take it to the track. I know those 20" carved will hurt your times like mine are doing for me. Can you get a video for us to hear the headers. Im sure they sound mean.

Its good to see that people are enjoying our headers. Their driveability is great and I'm anxious to see what kind of numbers you get for MPG.

Here are some pictures of them as well as the dyno chart.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Yeah the 20's really robbed some power. That was the only disappointing part about when I got them. Those 285/55/20 BFG G-Force KDW's really make up for it though with stickyness! I want to get to the track pretty soon but I might just wait till the supercharger comes out and then go to the track and dyno. Or maybe I should do a before and after huh?

About the lights... yes they are blacked out... and if you are interested I am going to be selling them soon. I just bought another set and I am having a Projector retrofit done and then putting 55watt HID highs!
