Default Magnaflow Exhaust

My truck stock setup was duals into the muffer with single out. I just added a dual in/out Magnaflow out the sides. I like the sound but the resonance on the highway is a bit much. I don't think my truck has a resonator on it. Are there any solutions to quiet down the resonance some? thanks for any help.

Adding a resonator, or in your case two, is a way to help with resonance. Also you could replace the tips on the end of the tailpipes with resonated tips.

As strange as it may sound, and I can't speak from personal experience on this, I read on another forum that a few guys cut off 12" or so from the end of there tailpipes, and in there words greatly reduced the drone.

My magnaflow single out had a very bad drone when i first put it on, but after a while is got noticably quieter. I would leave it for a lil while before spending more money

If it doesn't quiet down look into an H pipe.

Thanks for the info guys, turns out the magnaflow is a 18" and may put a 22" on. I think more than anything whats bothering me is the noise from the outside exhaust. Do you think 22" would sound quieter or what about a 50 or 70 series flowmaster?

As far as actual size the Magnaflow 18" is about equal to the Flowmaster 50suv and the 22" is equal to the 70 series. Magnaflow mufflers are a straight thru internal design and the flowmasters are a chambered design.

A guy at a muffler shop didnt think the 70 series would be any quieter than my 18" magnaflow because flowmasters are chambered vs. straight thru. anyone agree with that? He suggested two resonators instead of buying a new exhaust.

Generally speaking, the longer the muffler case, the softer the sound. Also if your tips exit before the rear wheel, you will get more in cab noise/resonance/drone.

I second the resonated tips suggestion.

On true dual exhaust(two mufflers and two tail pipes) a H or X pipe between the in pipes will cut down drone but it will take away the deep pounding V8 sound. There are 2 or 3 chambers in a stock muffler to stop drone. a resonator after the mufflers will help reduce drone. there already is one in the passenger side pipe. good luck.

SO all a H or X pipe do is cut down the drone? I was planing on getting Magnaflows with the x pipe they sell...dual outs behind the rear wheels, similar to the TRDs. Is this a good idea?

Some folks have added an 18" glasspack upstream of and in addition to the muffler to act as a resonator and been pleased with the results.

A 22" magnaflow will be just about as quiet as stock except under WOT.
