OldSchool, your post was a bit too coded for me (maybe I should have picked up more on your hints) Can you please explain in more detail?

Thanks

Generally the smaller the muffler the louder the noise. Most mufflers can be purchased, on average, for around $100.00 plus whatever an exhaust shop would charge to put in on.

No, you don't have the TRD exhaust. The TRD is a dual exhaust and a $1000.+ option when purchasing the truck new. In a way, you would think that the TRD exhaust would be part of the TRD Option package but it's not.

A poor college student with a brand new full size truck?
I did the same thing that i was talking about before to a HEMI a couple years ago and it made it throatier. It sounded real good. I just wanted to make sure i wouldnt lose any torque cause I love the way this truck pulls. I think im gonna do it cause I hate the look of the stock exhaust tip.

Yes, I am a poor college student. I'm a Petroleum Engineering student at Texas aTm. My mom and dad promised their kids that if we proved that we can make good grades in high school and move on to college they would buy us our first vehicle. I proved so and have made A's through two years of College Engineering.... so they rewarded me. and yes I know, Im very blessed to have my parents.

Why would you need more than 1 H-pipe?? Personally if I had the cash, I'd cut the factory off after the cats and get some smooth mandrel 2.25" into a X-pipe, then a pair of Dynomax Ultra-flows, and run 2.25" duals out at the stock location in a pair of resonated 3" tips. Or the better for space route and use the same muffler dual in/out, that they have with the internal x-pipe. I only have the 4.7L, but the same setup would work great on the 5.7L only using 2.5" pipe.

Do you have experience with H-pipes? What does installing an H-pipe do to an exhaust exactly?

Balances the system and substantially reduces any "drone" you may be experiencing. Should be installed 12" to 18" upstream from the buzz can.

If I may be so bold as to quote a former respected member.

"X-pipes will only intensify existing exhaust resonance
H-pipes are not a total cure, but they will retard resonance at a more affordable rate then dropping more coin for another muffler.A well equipped muffler shop can fab/install an H-pipe in less the 30 min. If they dont have a tubing notcher their not a muffler shop IMO "
Rest easy sir, rest easy....

Ya, I did some searching on the forum and ran across that post recently but thanks for posting it. I was hoping to get some real life feedback from an active forum member who has experience on that issue though.

Firecrew, Have you thought about the aero turbine stealth 187 or the stx 623? They both have 2-2.5" in and 1-3" out, also I would think they both would flow better than the stock muffler. Then leave the rest of the system stock. If there was any drone or power loss problems you could replace the stock resonator with the ar25. I also think the whole setup would be a bit louder than stock, for those who like that (not me). I want just a few db"s louder with power and mileage gains if possible
