Performance Exhaust SystemsDetailed discussions regarding performance headers, single, dual, street and off-hard racing exhaust systems for your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Exhaust systems..What do you think?", within the Performance Exhaust Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I'm looking for a system that isn't annoying on the interstate, but sounds good when you put the pedal down. For example, my friend has the Flowmaster Super 40 series on his GMC truck and it's too loud on the inside. Even he said that he wishes he had a switch he could flip to turn it off when it got annoying. Are the super 40 and super 44 basically the same?
How are the borla systems?

I have the Borla unit on my truck and it is awesome. I drive 900 miles to and from school and not once did I get annoyed by it. You may think it's impossible, but I only had the radio on to cut down on my severe boredom. Every time I got on it though, I'd turn my radio off. Even when doing like 70 or 80 and then punching it, my brother in car behind me could still hear it but at cruising speed you can't.
I posted a bunch of sound clips on here so a search for "borla sound clips" should do the trick.
Drone is minimal and definitely not enough to even annoy me. The quality of the pipes are amazing. The tone is absolutely beautiful. I got mine installed June 18, 2007, and I rarely listen to the radio around town.
Nice! That reconfirms what I've been hearing about the Borla systems. I'm going to check out your sound clips, and in the end I'll probably end up buying the borla system. Thanks for the advice rockstate

I've got the Borla Dual Rear Exit on my Crewmax. It is definitely not obnoxiously loud, but sounds really nice when you get on it. It does drone a tad on the highway between 65-67mph, but then it magically quiets down.
This one is expensive but i have seen some TV programs with Banks Mufflers and these guys do some really intense R&D from what i have seen on the TV and they have a Monster that fits the 06 and it will pobably fit the 07 as well nice quality SS kit? some say it needs a small tweak to mount up correctly but their stuff is quality!
Installed Banks Monster this PM and for 11 HP ? gain you can tell it has helped a tad? sounds supposed to get better after about a week long breakin according to tech? really sound good compaired to OEM which is a POS! sounds really good when you are trying for 10 MPG now i know why their are so many MPG threads, soo many people listening to their Cat Backs and not payin attention to rpm's!! me included! Install took 1 hour on lift and it went really smooth!
Still needs some break-in but sounds ok for me
Banks monster exhaust, I have it you can't even hear it on the freeway, but when you step on it you know its there. I love mine its a tad quiet for my liking but only have had it on for less than 1 day. Quality is top notch everything went together perfectly. And I feel that it definetely gave me a little more low end and more pep. It leaks a little where the clamps are but I'm gonna get the system welded together! I am comparing the banks to my flowmaster 40 which was too load and droned like a mother. But overall I am very pleased with it just wish it was a little loader but hopefull it will get loader overtime.

did you torque the front aircraft type clamp to 12 Ft lb? and the others i think were 35 ft lbs? mine did not leak any! i was concerned about the non reusable gasket at the forward connection because it fell apart when i took it apart and i did not replace it. i hooked the thing up and no leak so i guess it was not needed? i called Banks and they said no leak no problem! My wife can't stand the new noise and i told her too bad and that she needed to crank her Scion up and drive it more often! she get 30 MPH and does not like the size of the car and loves the room of MY DC! Banks also said that given a few onths the sound will change after it breaks in a little! Mine is loud at low end but is not bad at cruise? 60+
I did torque them down and they leaked so I torqued them down even more and it had a tiny leak, but I'm going to get it welded just to make sure. My gasket also fell apart into a 100 peices when I took it off but the manual said it wasn't needed so I tossed it. I also put in a Volant CAI that thing is loud, maybe that is why I can't hear my exhaust. But then again I am comming from a flowmaster 40 (that I took the baffles out) dumped that would set alarms off. When I turn my truck on standing outside of it, it has a nice low end rumble which I like a lot. I also cannot hear it at cruising speed 65+. I would rate the exhaust 9/10, it would be a perfect ten if it was a tad louder, as stated quality is top notch!
