My personal experience with it:

I gutted my cat back when i raced my honda. Worse thing ever! After i realized that it didnt do anything but make my car louder (no HP gains) I called honda to purchase a new one. They wanted 895 dollars for it. (like 6 years later!!) Plus, its illegal to purchase a used one in Florida.

If it makes you happy, its your Truck! To each his own.

If there isn't an O2 sensor behind it, You probably cut off a resonator.

Well this post was for the guys who are looking to help their truck performance wise. I didnt really need all you others telling me about how illegal it is and im killing the world with the exhaust. If you really cared about the trees and all that good stuff you wouldnt have a gas guzzling truck you would be riding in a prius or a bike or car pooling. So take you bored a$$es out of my thread and go save a tree. Im so tired of people bashing threads with crap, if you like it post if you dont then move on. Also I have been around cars and racing since I was 2, I think I know the difference between a cat and a resonator. Mike100 maybe you need to look up what your talking about before you say something. If not I can send you some of the stuff i beat out of the thing today.

Default Re: Last set of cats are gone!!!!

Toyota uses four cats on these engines due to the towing capacity. The secondary cats clean up what was missed by the first cats. All four cats are of the 3 way oxidizing variety, so getting rid of the last two isn't likely going to cause increased emissions under normal driving and light load conditions. Toyota is known for their oem high capacity cats - they are very durable and efficient units. I'd be willing to bet you'll barely notice the last set of cats not being there by means of emissions testing. My old 86 mustang passes the sniffer test without cats but fails the visual due to nothing being there. Today's fuel injected OBD2 engines run very clean thanks to tight computer control. Let's not start crying the blues about a few missing cats ( unless of course were talking about one of your pets ) I'm concerned about air quality just as much as the next environmentalist is - you should start cracking down on all those smoking diesels first before you complain about an OBD2 emissions vehicle without it's secondary cats. Mine are coming off as soon as I finish my longtube headers

I was behind two different cars here in cali that were blowin blue smoke all over the place and in one instance a cop drove right by one of them and didnt even care. If these smokers can pollute w/o any concern why would two missing cats thaw the iceburgs any sooner????

If you want to modify your truck to have more performance, fine. If you want to post a thread about how you made illegal modifications to your truck, (that have NO performance gains) that's your choice; but you should expect criticism and not whine when you get it.

If they were only resonator's that you removed, why not title the thread, "Resonators are gone!" If you have been around racing since you were two, then how come you didn't know the difference before you titled the thread?

Bottom line, you are going to do what you want. Me, I don't have to drive a Prius to give a sh*t about the environment, and not add to the smoggy crap that is already there. That is a personal choice, you have your choice I have mine. I choose to follow the law, and not pollute more than I have to. I want to do what I can to leave my two little girls a little bit of clean air.

In response to another poster, I agree, that there are far worse polluters out there. I also think the cops have far better things to do than chase polluting tail pipes. That is why there are smog requirements in many states/cities. Pain in the a** as it is, it has to help.

By the way, I am not a democrat, not a member of the Green Party, or a member of the ACLU. I don't need Al Gore to tell me that the world is going to end to know that the smog blocking the mountains in the summer is bad for me. Why make it worse?

Bottom line is...the federal gov is going to hafta make emissions testing mandatory for all states and all cities to do and start handing out $100k fines before anyone really gives a $hit. It is sad but unfortunately its true. Me...I would rather be nice to the enviro and do care about not polluting as much as possible but heck if there is a cool cheap mod that will make my truck sound bada$$ then sweet. Plus I think the U.S. so far is the only country that really has been stepping it up on the ozone and pollution...most other countries have no regulations and could care less.IMO

I live in Calif and we all bitch about paying higher gasoline taxes than most other states, but all that changed in October when my wife and I retuned from a month in Italy. Great vacation but the smog and smell from almost every car on the road was horrible! I swore I would never complain about paying more for a gallon of gas for cleaner air.

I agree with Wildbill why add to the problem? Especially if it is illegal.

IMO.
