Performance Exhaust SystemsDetailed discussions regarding performance headers, single, dual, street and off-hard racing exhaust systems for your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Banks Monster Exhaust installed with Pics", within the Performance Exhaust Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
My Banks Monster Exhaust finally came in and is now installed.
I am quite impressed with the quality of the system. All welds are extremely clean and all pipes are mandrel bent. The muffler is a straight through polished stainless steel. The pipes are 3 inches with a 4 inch polished exhaust tip.
At start up there is a quite pleasing blurp of exhaust. At normal acceleration there is barely noticeable sound in the cabin. At 2500 rpm under load there is a slight drone, but it is only for a few seconds and I sometimes forget about it. At full throttle it sounds like a beast. With the AFE intake that I have this truck sounds really good. At certain RPM you hear then intake and then you hear the exhaust.
Unfortunately I don't have a good video camera so no sound clips.
Mmmmmm, shiny!
Does your digital camera do short movie clips, that's all I use and they come out OK.
I'd like to hear it.
Actually I am a photographer and the D-SLR cameras don't have the option to do video.
In response for the butt dyno, I can tell you that with the combination of the intake and exhaust it will spin the tires even when you are moving forward, in first gear, and floor it.
With that said I have played tag with a mazdaspeed3 and was quite impressed that my truck was able to pull on him considering at high speeds this truck is basically as aerodynamic as a brick. From a light I had him and was pulling. The mazdaspeed3 runs 0-60 5.9 and the 1/4 in 14.2.
I am going to take it out to the drag strip we have out here to dyno and get some 1/4 mile numbers.
Is that catback exhaust all stainless? The y-pipe looks like it is aluminized steel or a low grade stainless. Looks like the stock y-pipe with larger tubing. I figured the whole system would look like the muffler from the flanges back like the Corsa and Zoomers exhaust. What was the price?

It is all stainless only the piping is not polished. This is how all non polished stainless will look after is has been touched by the heat and exhaust gases. 5.7L Tundra, '07-08 - MonsterĀ® Exhaust
It's probably 409 stainless on the pipes a little lower grade than 304 like the Zoomers and Corsa. 409 tends to turn a brownish gold color with heat where 304 only yellows a bit.
Before this becomes a pissing contest please refer to this explanation for the use of 409 stainless:
That is a beautiful y-pipe! No complaints here from it being made from 409 SS - I still insist it's the best choice for exhaust systems in contrary to what others say. I'd love to find out if the y-pipe alone is available to buy individually.

I have seen a special on TV on GB and his operations are pretty well top notch, he is big into Diesel which has been his bread and butter but everything he makes is done with quality involved from what i have seen. do not use his stuff but when i do get rid of stock exhaust it will be with GB stuff. should never have to replace!
I use to have the Banks on my Silverado. It was a good system. But I never did care for their type of clamps and clamp/hangers. I like the band style clamps for an even cleaner look.

Looks great. When I put my Magnaflow on my old truck I took it the local muffler shop and had them cut the clamps off and weld it. Paid $45, Changed the sound a little but looked alot better from the side. just a fyi......

I would agree, that's why I am going to just have it welded together.
Tunder19 - The exhaust was a cinch to install. Unbolt the stock one and bolt back in the new one. Didn't even have to lift the truck.
Pics for the person who requested how the tip looked from the back.
