Performance Exhaust SystemsDetailed discussions regarding performance headers, single, dual, street and off-hard racing exhaust systems for your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "High flow cats?", within the Performance Exhaust Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
If you look under your truck, provided you have the stock exhaust, the muffler has 2 pipes that enter it coming from the manifold and cats etc. Where they bolt up to the exhaust is a flange. I believe this is a 2 bolt flange, meaning there are 2 bolts that tie the two parts of the exhaust together. A 3 bolt flange uses 3 bolts.
In what I was saying with the cats that I have they already have 3 bolt flanges welded on.
Hopefully this will explain.
I will take a picture of the cats that I have and post up and you will be able to see them.

OOO ok...Thanks for clarifying...I kinda thought those were flanges but wasn't sure if it was different with high flow cats or something...So basically they are flanged so they can be easily bolted in or taken out...You don't hafta take pics I understand what you're saying. Thanks.

ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT MAKING A NEW POST??? TRY SEARCH FIRST!!!!!
I'm interested in hi-flow cats, but I am probably going to wait until summer. Some questions for you guys...
1. Borla exhaust and replacing the second cats with Magnaflow off-road ones. Will this work? What's the best way to up the sound of my Borla, keep 4 cats (so replace second ones only), and not have it TOO loud. I don't want it raspy at all. Hate raspy.
2. CEL at all?
3. Dealer give me any hassle?
4. Not concerned about power. Just want some more sound. Good viable option that is cheaper than headers? Also, it'll keep my cat-back intact with mockup to that, right?
So to recap. Want louder, but not raspy. Magnaflow off-road cats (maybe? maybe too raspy?) for secondary cats. What do you guys think?

I guess I'm skeptical........what proof is there that aftermarket cats flow more than stock? Is it because marketing/add depts. say so? I don't understand why more people don't invest in a G-Tech Pro to find out which mods work and which mods don't.

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience!
I have no idea, but by the 5 minutes of research I did on Magnaflow's website, I didn't really see anything on there. I'm not looking for more flow, just more sound. I understand that more flow may or may not be the cause of more sound.
I would imagine that Off-road cats would at least provide more flow...

Ok, I'll re-phrase. What proof is there that aftermarket cats are louder than stock?

Good call on being skeptical. The stock cats are pretty close, if not already high flow. Replacing them would be pointless. Even removing them will show a tiny, if any, increase in power.
On an old vehicle with the trash can lid size cats, replacing them would help out a whole lot. On new vehicles, its a waste of time, unless they are clogged. And them becoming clogged would be rare as hell.
