Default Header Install

Well, yesterday i decided to install my shiny new SSautochome headers on my 2004 Tundra AC 4.7

thought i'd give some install notes/experiences

the complete job took me 3 hours, and that included doing an oil change and a trans fluid change (however as a slight disclaimer to that - i am an automotive technician with a hoist at my disposal)

Tips as learned on the job
1. - pull the motor mounts right out, 6 bolts and thats it

2 - use a die grinder with a carbide to clean up/open up the front 4 holes on both headers, you don't need much, just enough to allow the studs to clear smoothly

3. just buy the toyota gaskets for the head and for the collector - and use the original "spring nuts" for the head studs- save any worries for later

4. you may wish to "bend/tweak" the shift cable support bracket to ensure proper clearance - just for safety

Now as for SSautochrome - their customer service to me was fantastic i found, emails were responded to quickly and friendly - i made an ordering error and with one quick email it was happily fixed for me, the headers were extremely well packaged and the shipping instructions i provided were followed perfectly - i was VERY impressed with how good they were
i was contacting sales@ssautochrome.com for all my help
and the only minor complaint was having the open the front 4 holes in each header slightly - even the 02 sensors fit good without any stress on the wiring - everything else fit awesome!

All in all i would recommend purchasing from them to anyone i talked to, and the price can't be beat - especially for someone facing an expensive repair bill for cracked manifolds

well, with only a few miles on it since, the computer hasn't learned totally yet, but it does seem to pull stronger in the mid-range and maybe a bit more off the bottom (didn't run it real high rpm pulling yet)

i've got the TRD dual exhaust, and while i wasn't expecting a sound change, i got a little surprise there - it almost sounds a bit deeper/stronger when you get on the gas - however cruising on the highway i think its possibly smoother and quieter

not sure on actually #'s for the primaries or collectors, i could measure for you next time i've got it on the hoist if you'd like??

I had mine insatalled at a muffler shop (no personal hoist) for $204.00. So for a total of $354.00 I fixed the damn manifold leak problem with superior components with more power. All around a great improvement for a moderate cash outlay.
