Performance Exhaust SystemsDetailed discussions regarding performance headers, single, dual, street and off-hard racing exhaust systems for your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Cherry Bomb Exhaust", within the Performance Exhaust Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
You could always just run straight pipes and be straight up Ricer with a capital r lol
Jk.
If you want it to sound like a V8, and you don't ever take it in the high rpms, get a Cherrybomb muffler. Make sure your muffler shop will let you hear it first. One of the two around me mentioned it without me even asking (looking for hi-flow cats or electric cutouts)

Yeah but which one? There's about 9430534 of them.
If it were me, I would go with 2 1/4" pipe with a true dual setup, and maybe 2 1/2" or 3" pipe with a single exit. Go to big and you will loose backpressure, resulting in a loss of power.
Edit: Also be sure you muffler shop knows the pipes do not join... i.e. does not have a y-pipe. This means you should get a muffler with dual inlets, if you dont go with a true dual setup. My muffler shop assumed it had a y pipe (dont know why) until I told him otherwise. As far as the position of the holes, any good muffler shop should be able to bend up piping to fit the muffler of your choice.

Since you have the 4.0, go to the Tacoma sites to check around for sound clips. Don't know if there an Cherry Bomb clips or not, but there are a few glass pack clips here and there.

Magnaflow for a V6 all day long...I've heard Magnaflow mufflers on 4.0L V6 Mustang, 3.8L V6 Camaro, 4.0L I6 Jeep, 3.0L V6 Stratus, etc etc...It has a really good throaty sound but not obnoxious and raspy or ricey sounding. I would go with Magnaflow if I were you.
Here's some clips and stuff from the Magnaflow site of a 4L V6 Tacoma and FJ Cruiser...I think they sound really good.
Anyone familiar with the cherry bomb mufflers? I'm looking for one to give me a louder than stock sound but not ricey and somewhat sound like a V8. Any suggestions? 006 said that the Cherry Bomb Extreme mufflers would be waay too loud for what I want so scratch that one off the list.
My Zoomer is getting better everyday! great sound, there was and still is a tad of a drone but its starting to fade.

Thanks for the audio clips I can't listen to the clip right now (in the library) but I was considering a magnaflow also. I really like the sound of this magnaflow on a 4.0L tacoma. I'm not really thinking about doing true duals. A friend of mine said it was a waste of money for minimal performance gain. Although I am going to do dual exits. Gonna go with t304 borla tips. I havent decided on the tips but will probably get these or these

Yea that Tacoma sounds good to me...I'd recommend a single in/dual out Magnaflow muffler if you want dual exits but don't want "true" duals. Those tips look nice and high quality too. Definitely listen to the clips I posted when you get a chance...I think you'll like them too. Oh also the Magnaflow universal mufflers really aren't that expensive....obviously more than Cherry Bombs lol but not that bad...much cheaper than buying a whole cat back system.

Well buying a cat back system is not really an option for me. I don't even think they make them for the gen-2 V6 tundras. In the video I posted, how much of the sound was related to his headers? Do headers affect sound?
