Default exhaust question?? just thinkin out loud...

I have read a lot of posts pertaining to exhaust and the loss of low end torque and horse power (both duel and single) even with just a replacement of the factory muffler...so my question is this: since even the direct factory replacement method causes a loss in low end power, why not use a muffler with 2.5" in and 2.25" (as opposed to 2.5 in and 2.5 out) out and just get new piping from the muffler to the tip? or have a 2.5" in and 2.0" dual out (as opposed to 2.5 in and 2.25 dual out)?

Sorry if this has already been covered, but I have not been able to find any posts of anyone ever trying this particular setup and I apologize if its a stupid question...I just always thought that part of the problem with running aftermarket exhaust on our tundras was the pipe size and loss of backpressure. I just didn't know if decreasing the pipe size by a little more would help some of if not all the power loss?

Any comments or input is welcome and appreciated as always guys!

I think a 2.25 in 2.25 out with a 2.25 inch out the back would work well. I would go with a flow-through muffler rather than a chamber design if I could do it again.

I don't tow much and I'm not into green light GP's so I haven't noticed any change performance wise + or - going from stock to the Aero-Turbine 2525 on either of the Tundra's I've had. The 2525 is 2 1/2" in and out.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????

i have a 2.5 in and 2.5 dual outlet setup on mine now and have had no problems. Im going to change it around sometime soon, and go with a 2.25" True dual setup with an X or H pipe, to the muffler then 2.5" piping out like i have now. But im going with 2.25" up front so i keep my torque and produce alittle better performance.

The thing about going with smaller pipes is that you decrease the flow, so it kind of defeats the purpose of aftermarket exhaust.
I think that the muffler has much more to do with what rpm range the engine makes power than does the pipe size. Most performance exhaust is designed to increase peak rpm power, which for a truck is pretty much useless.
