This is a discussion thread titled "TRD Dual Exhaust?", within the Performance Exhaust Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Sorry for another post but i'm really regretting the custom dual "flow sound" (not flow master, apparently Flow Sound copied flow masters design since there patent ran out) exhaust system put in today. I should of thought longer before I went in and did it. Total cost was 310... I just got it done this morning and am already regretting ahhh! Now i'm thinking of getting the TRD DUAL exhaust, and am wondering how much it would cost to buy and install by the dealer, i dont trust local shops no more they're so cheap can't trust them (and i think i learned my lesson for being cheap too =( ! eventhough they got 2 crewmaxes sitting outside haha... So i'm a poor college student and got about $4,000 saved up and don't want to blow it all off. If it's under like $1,100 installed by a real professional i'm down to rip of my new one i got today and break it to peices and trash it, and get the TRD dualies.
EDIT: another question is... I still have my stock muffler and exhaust ( which was cut off installing the system i got today) would i need that for the TRD dual exhaust system? or does it come with a totally new muffler and pipeing?
Srry if im being annoying it's just i dont know much about cars, and stressing a lot over this...

dont waste your money on the trd. search around on here. thirdhorseman just got a dope exhaust, best one i have seen so far for half that price, also the zoomers exhaust is very nice and a fraction of the price. if you take your time and find a good exhaust shop and pick the right mjuffler you can get any sound and look you want. better luck next time

The thing is I like that fact that it keeps your warranty, it's TRD, and the way the pipes exit out the side behind the wheel... sigh i tryed to copy the look of the TRD with my custom set up today lol. Another thing is I like how they sound not too loud not super quiet. Was thinking about getting a volant CAI, but might as well get the TRD CAI if i get the exhaust too. Also they used a machine to bend some pipes and I asked them if that mandrel bending... they said yeah, but after reading on mandrel bending dosent look like it cause my pipes are definately smaller where they are bent. ( like a soda can if u bend it a lil).

You are going to get alot of don't waste your money and I really don't feel like fielding this tired debate, but....
I bought and installed the TRD duals and after seeing and hearing most of the other offerings, I would not change my decision. The system is perfect, especially if you tow and like something mellow at cruising speeds. When you stab it, I have not heard anything quite like it.
You do not need your old exhaust, the new kit mounts on the flanges at the Cats and replaces everything to the exits.
I am sure if you took your offer to a dealership you could get the deal you are looking for. Tell them take it or leave it and don't be afraid to walk out, visit other dealers, or even buy it from Sparks and install it yourself.
I'm with MX. I have the Borla on my Tundra. I think it's pretty much the same sound but a bit louder.
It sounds AWESOME at full throttle, something no other exhaust can sound like. Sure, flowmasters sound good scooting around town but I have never heard another exhaust system I liked at full throttle other than the Borla and possibly the Corsa.
Get the Borla if you want something a bit louder. I've been told it was a bit louder than the 50 but probably a bit quieter than the 40 series Flowmaster.
I think you should go back and tell them you're not satisfied and that you want a Flowmaster muffler and not a Flow Sound. Then you can go from there. Did they tell you that it was a Flow Sound or a Flowmaster muffler they were putting on.. In other words, what did they tell you was going on there? ALso, were they that lazy that they couldn't unbolt the stock exhaust? It seriously takes about 5 minutes lol.

They didn't even bother to see if it was a bolt on, they just lifted the truck and started cutting away with there portable electric saw. And they wanted to keep it, I WAS LIKE HELL NO. They have like borla, magnaflow, flowmaster posters/ stickers around but i don't see any of products in sight... just the stupid flow sounds. Anyways i'll give some pics.
They really didn't tell me what was going on there, just said which sound do you like better, and went on from there... I think it's my fault too that I don't know much about exhausts. But when I called them i was like i'm thinking of getting a magnaflow or flowmaster he was like sure come on in we got many choices, and said it can run me anywhere from 220-320, so how is the cheap *** flow sounds running me 310! lol.
I just called my local toyota dealership and told them about trdsparks.com , the parts salesmen went to the site and he said he can match sparks price, is that good? I don't know anywhere i can get it for cheaper...
alright im gonna run out side and take some pics

Yeah, you should bring it to their attention... especially if they didn't tell you what they were putting on there.
If they can price match, do it. You're not going to save enough money elsewhere for the convenience of doing it that way. I think Sparks also sells Borla on their site (but it's been a long time since I checked).

Yeah they do sell borla it's a lil cheaper too, but I just love the way the TRD pipes come out the sides behind the wheels, as I stated i tried to copy that look, hold on you'll see taking pics now. I think borla made the TRD dualies too not sure though.

Another TRD exhaust guy here....I am no expert, but it sounds good, IMO. I really like it. You can install it yourself, it is really no sweat at all. Also check out "Concielli" (sp?) Toyota. They have good prices on-line also and free shipping on orders that large.
I have been super-happy with my TRD duals....I know some (most?) will disagree, but there is just something about keeping your truck OEM also.
Yeah Borla makes some split side pipes. If you want a bit more volume than the TRD, then maybe try callin' up sparks to see if they can deal that for ya. I dunno how aftermarket savvy your dealership is but most likely they won't carry Borla. Not 100% sure though.
Btw, no exhaust system will void your warranty. The only thing that won't be covered under your warranty is the exhaust - say you have it rust, they won't replace it for you.
Borla is T304 stainless (highest quality stainless in exhaust) and the TRD is a T409 which, in the lifetime of you having the truck, probably won't rust, unless you drive on the beach every day or drive in salt all year round.

Looks pretty good. Crush bent the pipes instead of mandrel bent so you'll get some reduced airflow right there.
What grade stainless did they use?
Since they cut the pipes right before the muffler you can still unbolt it from the second set of cats. It shouldn't take much effort to get it off, if you go that route.
