Default Corsa Sound Change After More Mods?

I fully intend to get a performance exhaust for my RCSB.

Corsa is most interesting because of the zero restriction / acoustic cancellation technology it uses. Finally we have someone who can do better than a round metal case full of fiberglass insulation and abrupt directional changes in the flow, same as the past 100 years, give or take.

I have been reading that Corsa mufflers and exhaust must be precisely tuned to individual vehicles and engines to make the acoustical cancellations work properly and the muffler actually muffle. In fact Corsa cautions against using their systems outside the intended applications. A couple days ago someone with a TRD supercharged Tundra 5.7 reported his Corsa Touring system is now extremely loud. Barring some unknown circumstances like damaging his exhaust somehow, I had to conclude the addition of the supercharger changed the engine characteristics enough that the tuning of the Corsa sound cancellation technology no longer worked properly, hence his high level of exhaust noise. It is not unreasonable the Corsa systems should be optimized around a specific engine, and then not be expected to work when the engine is changed very significantly, but we all love to modify. Does a Corsa system become useless (loud) when, say, a set of headers are added?

Anyone with a Corsa system who added the system to a stock truck, then installed other mods later (such as headers), did you notice an increase in exhaust noise, and which mods did you install that caused this?

Corsa exhausts are apparently tune specifically for stock applications. I had the corsa touring exhaust on my '07 DC Tundra before I sold it and added an AFE CAI. Well, the AFE lasted for about 3 days, I could not stand it anymore. The CAI completely cancelled out the sweet mellow sound of the corsa touring setup. The very first time my wife rode with me after installing the CAI, she asked me, "Wow, what happened to your exhaust, it's so much louder now?" Hands down, Corsa is the best system I have had on any of my trucks but I would not get one if you plan to supercharger your truck. I plan to have my truck supercharged by the end of the month. I currently have the banks exhaust installed. I hope the banks exhaust don't get any louder under load. While many say that banks is as quiet as stock, I simply don't agree. IMO, banks has an unhealthy high pitch tone, almost ear piercing at time, especially when first installed but later it gets quieter after about 3000 miles, but not completely. I just spent two days installing sound deadening material in my truck and it has helped some, but at times under load, banks still can be annoying. At least crusing at 70 has gotten better. The drone is not as noticeable now. In time, I am sure I will find just the right exhaust system for a supercharged truck. Heck, maybe Corsa will make an applicaton specifically for a supercharged tundra...NOT!!! A Corsa rep. told me six months ago that they were considering making a system for our RCSBs. Well, that has not happened and I don't believe it will. With fewer RCSBs out there, I don't blame any company for been hestitant about making applications specifically for RCSBs.

Hi dude, thanks for responding. Since the first post I was able to find several videos including one fellow who installed long tube headers and then complained of obnoxiously loud levels from his Corsa system, so I decided to pass on the Corsa. To be fair, there may have been other factors at work, such as removing catalysts when installing long tubes.....any exhaust system can get louder when this is done. I would have had to cut over a foot of tubing from the front pipes to make the Corsa fit my RCSB, plus I would likely have other mods in the future including long tube headers, and I am not confident the Corsa would remain quiet after all was done.

I had a SI/DO Magnaflow then added a K&N FIPK on the last truck. I don't think it changed the tone of the exhaust or characteristics of the engine, just the extra intake noise blended with the exhaust noise that was already there and it sounded like one louder sound with a different pitch. I suspect that's what happens with the SC too, if it changes the engine note in any way that just adds to the exhaust note and creates different noise characteristics in the cabin.

not to get too far off topic as I respect Mr. Creosote, most performance intakes make more noise than the exhaust system. My truck is much quieter without the k&n tube. The webbers on my bug are much louder than the exhaust. My brothers honda is outright obnoxious since adding a short tube intake. It seems to be too much work to make a muffler that compensates for a variety of add-ons. I have not tried headers yet and don't have a 2ndgen but I'm sure the same principles apply. Good luck finding something that you like, spintech makes some quiet ones with fairly smooth flow directional changes.

Yes I have the Corsa Sport and supercharger. I first had the JBA and supercharger and it was kind of quiet but droned like hell. I was looking for something different and was at a Tundra meet and there was another supercharged Tundra at the meet with Corsa Touring. We were cruising around and I heard him take off and was immediately sold on the Corsa! I loved the throaty sound!

Mine is definitely higher pitched and louder than his touring. It is quiet when you are just cruising but when you open it up it is definitely loud, which is what I was looking for. I don't think it is obnoxiously loud though. The nice thing is that there is absolutely no drone anymore!

Here are a couple of vids.
