don't think it will be louder than a flowmaster 40...but I also didn't think the resonator made too much of difference except for in cab noise...could be wrong though

I have heard a few clips without the resonators..I am thinking I am going to first put my exhaust on, and then drive down the road...Then if not loud and deep enough, the exhaust shop said they will cut them off then.

Be sure to try them out first (i.e. removing them) before you totally throw them out. Lots of times resonators are designed to reduce drone, so getting rid of them might not give the result you want.

Hi,

I have a 2004 DC Limited and recently made the horrible mistake of removing my resonator when I installed an aeroturbine muffler. The sound level in the cab was a little louder which was fine - I wanted a louder exhaust so that the truck would sound like it had a pair.

The issue is in-cab drone. This is indescribable. You have to experience it to believe how extremely insane this is. It will make you nuts on a drive any longer than a trip to the local hardware store. The drone kicked in around 1800-2100 rpm. It drove my wife nuts and she would not be quiet about it. I actually wondered if it would be possible to beat myself to death with a hammer before passing out because of her nagging. To be honest, the drone even bothered me.

I ended up putting a glass pack in place of where the original resonator was. I have a very nice mellow sound and still get a nice growl during acceleration. The in cab drone has been taken care of.

I think that if you remove your resonator you will regret it. I also do not think that you would be able to gain any measurable improvement in performance if you removed it. I have not dynoed my truck or seen any dyno results on this issue so this is just a subjective assessment.

Here is the thread I wrote about my experience with this Aero Turbine Exhaust

19+ MPG on the Highway at 75 MPH in a DC with a four speed automatic and a bad O2 sensor - not too shabby!

You are likely correct, since resonators are usually just "straight through" cavities and do not present significant restriction to the exhaust.

14" dual Maganaflows are louder than dual 40's Series 13" Flowmasters with resonator removed. I've owned both and are louder then flowmaster but not by much.

Just remove the resonator and run dual mufflers.

You will not find any higher flowing cats then what you already have.
