Default Looking for ideas

I would like some suggestions please,

After driving around for a few months and a road trip I have decided I really dont like the 2000rpm drone the flowmaster 40 puts out. I thought I could live with it but the drone is right at 65mph which I typically cruise at.

I have the stock resonator in place then the flowmaster single in dual out with tips exiting rear bumper.

Any ideas? I want to keep the duals and just switch out the muffler I'm thinking a different flowmaster or??? I like the idle, acceleration etc but the 2000rpm drone just gets old.......funny thing is my old mustang with the same set up had zero drone.

Thanks for any ideas I did search but didnt find much.

I've heard flowmaster 50 series is better as far as cabin drone goes...other than that I would say switch to the magnaflow...probably 18" or 22"...and definitely keep the resonator

I had drone too but like an idiot I had removed the stock resonator. For me the solution was to install a glass pack in place of where the stock resonator had been. It took care of the problem and still left me with a nice growl on acceleration without the in cab drone on the freeway. I have pics of the set-up on my profile if you want to see how it is set-up.

19+ MPG on the Highway at 75 MPH in a DC with a four speed automatic and a bad O2 sensor - not too shabby!

Thanks for the ideas guys,

I'm going to call the muffler shop and see what they say I will post a follow up see if cant figure something out. I think with the colder weather it makes the drone that much worse for some reason.

Well I just had the flowmaster 40 removed and replaced with a magnaflow muffler part #12198.

I'm out another $150 and its still droning at 65mph.......back to the exhaust shop tomorrow I guess.

Its better but not much WTF! I also need to get one of my tail pipes put on straight as they welded it with the stainless tip sideways I guess it just aint meant to be today.

Well took it back had another resonator added and tail pipes rewelded sounds fine now end of story hopefully...

I should add after removing the flowmaster and installing the magnaflow it feels like I got a increase in bottom end power YMMV

Can you post up some pictures of where your muffler is located and where the resonator is? I am not an expert on this, but I have a theory that the location of the resonator in relation to the engine and the muffler, as well as the location of the muffler in relation to the resonator and engine can have an affect on drone. I think how far they are from the engine and how far they are from each other plays into the whole resonant frequency effect.

Also, what kind of resonator did you have installed? When I had mine done I had expected they were going to put a stock resonator back in but they told me they were going to put a glass pack in. I trusted the guy because he has been doing this forever and it turned out alright for me. I have pictures posted in my profile which may help you to understand how my drone was solved.

Just my two cents worth of experience.

What kind of 40 series is it? I've heard that the Delta 40 muffler decreases the cab drone.

$200 true dual set-up without any extra resonators,
excuse the road/wind noise
Zero droan at 70 when the cruise is set

I would be happy to take pictures for you but I am without camera at the moment. They installed what looks like and old style glasspack about 6 inches before the muffler. It seems to be working out fairly well although I wonder how long its all going to last now. They did quite a crappy job of welding my existing tailpipes to the new muffler. I am debating going back to stock (have to buy all new stuff as I got rid of the stock piping) or trying a gibson catback. Either option would run another $300 or so.......

Thanks for the video but I also had virtually zero drone at 70mph with the flowmaster 40 but at 65mph I couldnt hear myself think....lol.

The magnaflow is alot better just a slight drone at 65mph quiet as stock at 70mph.
