Default leak? solution?

I noticed after warming the truck this morning that I had three puddles of water on the ground. Two where I normally find them at the tail pipes and one just north of the muffler where the cupeling is. Is this a good sign of a leak? What are possible problems and solutions?
Thanks,
GATR

Hey GATR,

Definitely sounds like a leak. Can you see any sign of rust near the coupling? Now that you know you have something going on there, when you start the truck stand out there and look for where it is coming from. As long as it is outside you can lay under it (in PARK with emergency brake applied) and use a flashlight to see where it is coming from. It may take a couple of tries over a a couple of days to pin it down.

Is the coupling a welded joint or just a slip joint with a pipe clamp?

If it is a welded joint then have it touched up by a welder. You need to grind it clean to bare metal/weld so that it is shiny in order to have the best surface to weld on.

If it is a pipe clamp you can try tightening it but there is only so much you can crank those down.

A third possibility I just thought of is that maybe the front of your muffler has a hole in it. If this is the case then you get to spend some money on a new muffler project (replete with pictures!).

Let us know what you find out.

19+ MPG on the Highway at 75 MPH in a DC with a four speed automatic and a bad O2 sensor - not too shabby!

Those couplings in front of the muffler on the Gen 1 are a very poor design. I was constantly tightening and retightening, but it would always get loose and start buzzing again. I finally got two blocks of aluminum and built a flange for it.

Just get a muffler shop throw a weld around it and the problem is solved.

I just do that. Went out side today and did a startup. Watched the water fill to the brim of that cupeling, so it's right there.

Thanks for all the help!
