Default Headers

I have several questions about headers and would like to hear from members who have the same truck as I do. I am not trying to come across as being a jerk, but it does me no good to try and compare my truck to a second generation or even a truck with vvt.

At any rate my truck is:
  • 2004 DC
  • 4.7 V8
  • Four wheel drive
  • Four speed automatic transmission
I did a search about headers and came up with 500 results. It seems to me that there are three popular headers here in no particular order:
  • JBA
  • Doug Thorley
  • URD
In looking at what dyno charts I could find it seems that the majority of the gains take place in the upper (3k + rpms) range. I am looking to get a little more horsepower around 2300 rpm as this is the rpm I spend the most time at on the freeway. I would like to have a little more low end torque but I am really after some more horsepower at the 2300 rpm range.

Any feedback from members here who have the same truck as me with headers would be very much appreciated. I am especially interested to know if you saw any change (whether that be an improvement or a decrease) in fuel mileage. I have no intention of replacing my cats so it would also be helpful if there is anyone who has the headers without aftermarket cats.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to reading the feedback.

19+ MPG on the Highway at 75 MPH in a DC with a four speed automatic and a bad O2 sensor - not too shabby!
