Default Exhaust modding

I had a couple questions regarding modifications to the stock exhaust. I am looking to gain a little more sound out of my system...not alot though, and a gain in power is always welcome but a loss in power is not an option.

What would be the effects/consequences of removing the two rear cats and/or the silencer? Sound gain...obviously, but how much? Performance gain would be negligable, and not doing it for that but like I said I do not want a loss.

Its not that I am to cheap to buy a system, I had a custom built catback for about a year or so, but the sound grew kinda old and wound up selling it to a fellow member. And if you want to be a smartas$ you can keep your comments...just wanting opinions not lip. I was just wondering if I could get the effect I want without sinking a ton of money into another system I wont be happy with.

I hacked off the stock muffler and welded on a magnaflow dual in single out. Then had the exhaust shop bend up a new outlet pipe and had it swept out the side with a chrome tip on it. Sounds great and only set me back like 250....

Do you do any modification to the rear cats or with the silencer? I have swapped the muffler and wasnt completly satisfied so I went back to stock. I am debating on trying the above mentioned mods, or just trying out a milder sounding system such as the banks or the corsa sport.
