Default Low-end loss with headers

So I've got like 2K miles on my new JBA headers with stock pipes and I can notice a loss in low end power. It does have a good increase in power in the upper RPM ranges but I spend most of my time under 60mph running around town. Instead of jumping off the line with minimal throttle, I gotta floor it now, which is when it makes power, but its killing my gas milage.

Any thoughts as to how I can get some of that low-end back?

Headers should have given you the opposite result. Is that the only mod you made? The only time I felt a low-end loss is when I installed a cold air set up and a 2 1/2" cat back exhaust. When I installed my headers I instantly felt a low end power increase.

I'd say check for leaks and tighten/retorque everything.

No obviously leaks or loose nuts. Everything looks and sounds good. I used new OEM gaskets and locknuts. Whats funny is, sometimes, the thing takes off the line like a bat outta hell. Other times, it takes a footfull to get the thing to haul. Perhaps the computer is still mapping?

Also, I've got an 18" MagnaFlow muffler that I bought and haven't installed yet. Should I not? I don't really want any additional exhaust tone, but I would weld it on in a second if it would help any..... Thoughts?

ECU will adjusts after 200mi, so it's not that. Hmmm...

I say reset the ECU again, stomp on it for the entire 200mi if you can. Force the ECU to adjust to this new driving style.

Thumbs up Re: Low-end loss with headers

Update: I replaced the dirty K&N drop-in air filter with a new OEM one, cleaned the MAF sensor, and changed the oil. I also drained a little bit of the stock coolant out and replaced it with straight non-diluted Prestone to richen up the coolant.

It now runs a lot better, with the constant power increases that I expected with the addition of headers. I don't think it was breathing properly, and was running hot.

Im back to tearing up the streets!

When there was discussion between the JBA/DT headers I think the JBA's were known for the high end power and the DT's made their power in the low end rpm's.

One fellow "Socialstar" with a Unichip found while tuning that the JBAs offered little improvement but the DTs were better. Hopefully he sees this thread and can comment.
