I have the Magnaflow 15820 cat back exhaust on my 05. The other day I started to notice a rattle sound under the truck and also thought the exhaust was a little louder than normal. I crawled underneath to see if I could find anything and 2 of the metal hangers had come off the rubber "H" rings that supports the exhaust. What I realized was that the metal hangers installed on the system did not have the furrel (bumps)on them to stop this very sort of thing from happening. I put the hangers back on the H rings and then wrapped the ends of the hangers with duct tape in hopes this will stop them from coming off again. Now I am starting to wonder if the hangers on my exhaust system are wrong or are they all this way from Magnaflow. Funny thing is the back hanger does have a furrel on it but not the 2 closest to the muffler. I even checked their website to view the image but it is not clear in the picture what the hangers should look like. Just wondering if anyone else out there has had this problem before or did Magnaflow just put the wrong hangers on my exhaust system?
I've got the 15809 on my '05. I know exactly where you're referring to, but mine doesn't have the problem. The hangers aren't tapered or flanged or bubbled at the tip either. They don't slip off the rubber, the Magnaflow hangers have a larger diameter than the oem rubber connector, so it's a tight fit.
If you grab your exhaust tip, can you shake it? How much play is there?
Shouldn't be much. I had a lot of play in mine for about a month before I recognized it. I then checked further up towards the muffler, had a loose clamp. Well, it wasn't LOOSE rattle rattle loose, but it wasn't as tight as it could be. I fixed that with a strong arm and a breaker bar. Then I noticed about two months later I had a clamp loose from the y-pipe to the muffler. That one was rattling loose. Fixed that one too. Now the tip doesn't move much at all.
Ok, there's a point to all this. With all the slack in the frontward pipe, that may contribute to the movement in the rear pipe. In turn, allowing your flanges to disconnect. Worth checking out with a wrench. Even if it's not finger loose... ya know?
Another option would be to get larger rubber connectors. But I'm unsure where to begin your search on that front. Perhaps a diesel system with the fat smoke stack cans hanging off the back... they may have larger hangers.
Let me know if you want a pic of my hangers on the truck. Can do np

Actually I work for Toyota and build Corolla and Matrix so getting my hands on the larger rubber hangers is not a problem . Never thought of that to be honest but that might help.
There is definately too much forward/back movement in my system in my opinion but everything else is tight. I also had a rattle in my system before. The "C" clamp supplied by Magnaflow was not a good fit. Took it back to the shop where I had the exhaust installed and they put a big impact on the clamp and it finally broke but never did properly tighten. They replaced it with a heavy duty "U" style clamp and that solved that problem. No other clamps are loose and I dont see any other problem areas. I will check tonight to give it a lift and see how much play there is in it. I dont have the old stock system any more but I am pretty sure they had the tapered metal hangers on the pipe so they would not fall off the rubber hangers (H rings). I know that at our factory all parts of the exhaust system have tapered metal hangers and I would guess that most Toyota's are the same. Just thought it strange that the back hanger is tapered on the Magnaflow system but not the front 2.
I want to compare our two connections areas. Just to see how much pipe overlap you have versus how much I have on my setup. I'll post two pics tonight of these two areas:
1. Y --> muffler IN
2. muffler OUT --> tailpipe

Got my exhaust fixed up yesterday. I took it to a local shop referred by a friend of mine. I had already bought the stock "C" clamp, bolt and gasket for the connection between the resonator and the muffler so I asked them to change those out while fixing the rest of it. The old gasket was shot to hell and leaking a lot so I knew that was a problem. The guy at the shop changed out that stuff plus took a torch to the hanger brackets off the muffler and bent them to better align with the body brackets. He also change out the clamp on the intake side of the muffler since it was leaking too. Took about 40 minutes to do everything. When he was done it sounded a lot better. The exhaust leaks were gradual so I did not realize how loud it was getting inside the cab until everything was fixed. Still sounds good outside the truck just no buzzing inside anymore. And best of all....no charge. I will defianately be going back there in the future for brakes, exhaust, tires etc. Good bunch of guys. Quick and professional. Too bad there are not more businesses out there like that. From reading on this site, there are a lot of Toyota dealerships that could learn from places like this.

While a couple of baby clamps would have worked, I didnt have any. So rather than wasting an extra half hour to spend money on a temporary fix, I used what I had at my disposal, which was free, and worked.
By the way, there were no "ducks" involved.
