Default Debadging Tundra - Yes or No?

Just wondering how many members are planning to or already have debadged their Tundra versus leaving them in place.

I'm on the fence with it myself. I've had a couple of people comment on how the badges look cool on the truck. They do have a nice contrast on the black finish.

I just don't understand why people want to debadge their trucks.

them:"so it's a sleeper 5.7L"
me: "BFD!! It's a truck! who are you really going to blow off of the line?...an F150? hey! There's an accomplishment"

Them: "so it looks sleeker"
me: " It's a truck!! Besides, I thought you liked the shiney chrome?!"

Them: "so people wonder what it is"
me: "99.99997% of the people you encounter throughout the day, couldn't give 2 farts about it. No one is going to sit there and say 'what is it? I have to know! dodge ram front end, japanese interior....OMG! I have to know!' here's the reality... 'oh, green light....aren't my nails so cuuuuuute?!' "

Don't debadge, be pround of yer toyoter

imo...the tailgate was too cluttered and the 5.7 badge is a huge chunk of plastic....so those were the only ones i took off. left the trd and the tundra badges on the doors. i made sure to wrap them up and take care of them..in the event i change my mind later. so far...thats not going to happen.

Woody,

I couldn't have said it better. What a waste of time to debadge. I just don't get it. You left off the part about the the teenage girl that got a new Mustang GT for her highschool graduation and she smokes a sleeper 5.7 Tundra. Trucks is trucks not sports cars.

For those that think your truck is fast...go buy a Mustang GT (they are a cheap sports car) and you will have a 14 second car off the showroom floor for not much money. Then you can wear out anyone with a 5.7 Tundra.

Default Re: Debadging Tundra - Yes or No?

I de-badged so that I could re-badge. Removed every factory emblem except the "4x4" on the bottom right corner of the tailgate. Replaced all 3 of the "Tundra" emblems with "Coyote" in the same size. Replaced both "Limited" emblems with "Wile E." in the same size. The new emblems were all chrome over ABS and made by an OEM manufacturer.

The main reason I did it was because it is my personal truck and my mascot is Wile E. Coyote. I like it and I don't care what anyone else thinks. No sense being just another Tundra on the road or advertising for Toyota for free. The secondary reasons include:
  • Style: I didn't like how the factory emblems looked. The V8 engine badges were too much and out of alignment with the other side badges. Many other manufacturers use "Limited" on their vehicles so you are not really special. Something had to change to make this my truck.
  • Humor: Many people are confused and ask me where they can get a Coyote. Lots of heads turn on the highway. Most people smile with me or at me, either is fine.
  • Truck Envy: Die-hard Ford or Chevy guys don't slam it since they don't know for sure what it is. Mechanics and valet attendants praise it openly without concern for the brand. Eventually the mechanics will recognize it as a Tundra but for now most of them have no clue. Even the Toyota dealer was confused.
  • Legal: Police that pull me over on the highway will be reluctant to call it in. "Show me out on I-40 with a Dark Brown Coyote, late-model Wile E, for speeding." No, I think there will be at least a few that will think twice before reporting me. Sure, the plate will come back to a Tundra but it just might lighten their day enough to save me a fine.
And of course it was yet another mod, something to keep me busy for a few hours.

I'd like my vehicles debadged. Cleaner look and easier to polish and wax. Yeah it's a truck ... but it's my truck ... and I like 'em clean. Mine's a Limited, so I'd also like to paint the grill, mirror housings and door handles body color, also. My 'Runner Limited has very little chrome. Even though I have a Harley I'm not big on chrome. It has a black engine and only a few chrome accents. My Vette is debadged also. But, alas, the wife likes chrome ... so the chrome stays ... for now.

How much on average would it cost to paint mirror housing, door handles, and pillar posts? I fell in love with that red regular cab SEMA show truck that had EVERYTHING painted!

Now ... that's the way I like 'em! Not sure how much a quality body shop would charge, but materials alone would be expensive. You're talkin' primer, base coat, clear coat and verious catalysts and maybe some flex agent for the grill surround. I'm sure it'd cost a few hundred bucks even if ya did it yourself. I shot the front clip and the stripe on my Vette in my garage, but I ain't puttin' no painters out of business. LOL!

In a word: Yes, you should always debadge.
For all the exact opposite reasons as stated above

Which looks better?? I know, I know, it's not an 07, but you get the idea..

Yes to debadge. The V8 badges are HUGE and serve no purpose. I never owned a car before that had as many badges as the tundra. Toyota overdid it in my opinion. And the TRD stickers suck too!

I partially debadbed my black crewmax sr-5, off came the 5.7 and sr-5 badges, left the TUNDRA on the doors and tailgate. I think it's perfect, chrome bumpers and badges, everything else is black. I also tinted the fronts to match the rears and everybody tells me it looks like a limo.

I think it just looks better without the badges, not trying to make a sleeper, just to much clutter. I have removed emblems on most every vehicle I have owned that didn't use indexing holes/pins for emblem placement.
