Just curious how may have had the rods on the gate break? Dealer says you have to order the whole rod in order to get the clips. I replaced mine with chevy clips.
I did have a problem with the gate staying closed after the Line-X was put in, but it was an install problem and after a DAY of tinkering they were able to fix it. No problems since... and locked!

By rods, do you mean the gas spring rod that aides lowering/raising the tailgate (inside left tail light lens assembly), or the latch mechanism push/pull rods attached to the handle assembly inside the tailgate proper? Both use clips of different varieties.

Mine almost broke this weekend. It got stuck in the closed position. I did not force the handle cause it will break. So I removed the access panel and manually pulled the linkage (long metal rods). It opened but with some pressure. I loosened up the Stops (where the latch latches) by loosening the 2 screws and moved the latch about 1/8 of an inch closer to the tailgate. This alleviated the pressure of the tailgate resting against the rubber stops which makes the latches hard to unlatch. I did this on both sides. I also checked make sure the tailgate is not too far away from the rubber stops as this will cause it to rattle. Trial and error. If you have a loaded bed make sure it is not resting or pushing on the tailgate when you open it. I also lubricated all the linkages inside with engine oil. Smooth as silk now. Dealer repair?? Ya but some of them don't even know what causes the binding. They'll replace the broken part, try it if it works and when it does, they consider it fixed.

my last truck was a chevy z71 and there was a recall of tailgates breaking under pressure.
had my linex installed now the tailgate does not close all the way
I had the same problem after my Line-x.....Just remove the rubber bumpers it closes against and trim them a little at a time till it closes correctly.I had to do the same thing on my 04 DC.
On my crewmax the plastic piece on the drivers side came loose (popped off) and caused the tailgate to stick. Unfortunately, this was after I had just gone to Costco and loaded a new refrig. and a new grill in the bed.
Afer taking off the access panel ( I have a factory bedliner and not spray in) I could see the piece that came off. I reattached (very easy) and then put a small plastic zip tie around it which should keep it on securely. No other problems so far.

I think you have the right idea I adjusted my hinges just a touch and I think that will do the trick, still think those clips are junk, going to replace them wih one off of chevy door handle a lot thicker clip.
You don't have to order the entire rod to get the clip, the dealer was giving you bad info. reference Part# 69749-34010, they cost about 8 bucks each. Only problem i've seen is when the tailgate has been pulled apart and not re-installed correctly...hope this helps guys...
