Lincoln was a dictator and oppressor who set the example of how to ignore the Constitution and the rule of law. Washington set the pattern for term limits. Yeaaaaaah! GW!

For the most part God has blessed our nation with some great presidents. I have had the last seven of them as my Commander in Chief. I think Washington and Lincoln both had it the hardest and performed tremendously considering the circumstances. It is easy to crtiticize people until you have walked a mile in their shoes. To bad Michael Moore wasn't president when 911 took place. What kind of movie do you think we could have made about Him. I still believe the heart of the king is in the Lord's hand and prayer we will get one the Lord has some control over.
If Lincoln was so terrible you would think the orginal manuscript of the Gettysburg Address would be worthless. Instead it is invaluable. What a great orator and man of courage. Men like him come once in a millenium IMHO.

Yeah, you know who else was courageous and a great orator? Take a guess, I dare you! Just let your mind roam.
If you're thinking of who I think you're thinking of, courageous doen't come to mind. And to compare Lincoln to him is like comparing the Gettysburg Address to Mien Kampf.

Actually, the person we are talking about was a message runner ( one of the Great War's most dangerous jobs), was wounded several times and was rewarded with the IC 2nd Class and 1st Class (a rare honor for an elisted man). So even though he is one of the most horrible humans to have ever lived you can say he was actually quite personnally courageous. Yet, that's not the point.
Lincoln ruled by fiat and used Congress as a rubber stamp. He used military force against his fellow citizen ( and he always considered them his fellow citizens as to acknowledge them as not being so would have been official recognition of the Confederacy as a legitimate institution). He forcibly oppressed the people of the state of Maryland and denied them their constitutional rights. This is just the tip of Lincoln's record of tyranny. To compare G. W. Bush to Linciln is a great disservice........ to Bush.

Thank God, one of him was enough.
As for the value of the original manuscript of the Gettysburg Address (and I'm not arguing that its not a significant and generally positive historical document), the person I'm talking about had some original water color paintings sale for $235,000 recently at auction. Just because someone pays too much money for something doesn't make it worthy of praise.
Just because someone achieved something positive doesn't justify the negative things they did to make that achievement. Lincoln trashed our Constitution to keep the "Union" together when all he had to do was compromise. The same things people dislike about G.W. are the same things we praise Lincoln for today. Wonder how G.W. will be seen in 100 years?
Lincoln was about preserving a people and a Nation, Hiltler was about destroying a Nation and a race. Lincoln was about freeing the slaves while Hitler was about killing God's chosen people. I will see Lincoln in heaven but I am sure Hilter will be in Dante's ninth ring of the inferno along with Judas.
