There has been a possible misconception going around about gains with mods. I have stated this, and have read this more then once prior to starting group buy, and have been guilty of passing this along without verifying first. I had a long talk with Jack about gains with mods tonight and I'll try to state what his explaination was. First off this will not effect SC buyers or stock no mod buyers just those that have made intake / exaust mods.
Unichip makes power from adjusting fuel air and timing for rich and lean conditions. Generally the 4.7L I-Force runs rich at lower RPM under light and WOT, and lean at WOT near top end (5200). Unichip will adjust to maintain more consistant levels then the stock ECU does, therefore creating power. So when we modify our engines, lets say headers, less restrictive exhaust and increase intake, we now have leaned our rich condition by adding higher volumns of air. So then we add the unichip and now there is less magin of error and in many cases slightly lower gains then stock. This only holds true with intake and exhaust mods. There is only so much gain from air volumns until you force induction, modify cams, modify heads and so on, then there are now higher gains because capacity has increased.
What this means is potentially with mods outlined, we could see less in gains then the stock truck. But we and Jack do not know until he dynos this setup. Now I'm finding out that is 1 week min away. Gains could also be higher...but given the trend of most engines prob. not. He still stands by his original guarantee that no other chip will make more power, and Jack believes we still will see nice gains also. So the group buy closes Friday, and no money is submitted yet, and with this new information we need to put to vote.
Do you want to hold the group buy until we have dyno's with given mods, and delay the production accordingly or go forward. It's not fair to keep the stock and SC from voting even though this doesn't effect them because they payed deposits as well.
could you split it up? say hold the ones waiting for mods and ship the ones who just want stock maps?? also, is the last day as of now 4/16/04 or earlier?

Our discount depends on total quanity sold. You cant close the deal without knowing how many units are being purchased.
Last day to order is this Friday. and projected ship date is 4/16/04.
I would think the 13 second Tundra video should be enough.
I'm for goin ahead without a dyno....just dial that puppy in like the 13 second Tundra

How long could a delay last for? If the 2000 tundra is doing its mods now, we should find out relatively soon what the outcome is between each step, correct? I certainly don't want to be a wet blanket, but I would like to see some graphs with at least headers and exhaust for mods.

You supercharged guys are going to score heavy from preliminary comments. We will have dynos for you by Thursday...and these will make our gains look weak!

The delay will be at least as long as it takes figure 2 weeks...cause his 1 week is a min for the dyno with mods.

i voted " no , on with it " BUT i will change my vote if it is for the BEST interest of the rest of the buyers in this GB . E.

We really cant say if it is. Just that I told a couple of people with mods that gains should be equal or better the stock. This latest info from Jack contradicts that POSSIBLY.
So I cant answer that. My vote is on the conservative side only because I prefer to wait, then see someone get pissed because it's not what they thought it would be.

What mods are being added to the test truck? I recall you saying the maps for headers and FIPK will be done by this Thursday, 3/25. If that's true, then are we looking at an additional week from Thursday for dyno numbers?
My take: I'm probably in with or without the dyno numbers, but I want to see what Jack's timeline is and what the mods are before voting.
Thanks Kev for being so honest and up front through this entire process. Setting the proper expectations makes for a happy ending.
Seee-ya,
Jim.

Yes, but that truck wasn't rechecked before SC was added (00)?! So we are waiting for the 03 and as I understand it headers, FIPK and exhaust are being done...that was the agreement on popular mods from day 1.
Looks like 2 weeks or so, but he didn't have an exact date.
Generally the 4.7L I-Force runs rich at lower RPM and light throttle and lean at WOT.
Kevin: Please double check that this isn't reversed. Or is it referring to an S/C Tundra? I'm confused because almost everbody I can think of has reported rich mixture at WOT on the dyno. Some of them have been down around 10-11:1. I think V8 Toilet's was rich and also Yellbird's.
Yellbird has about the same mods as me except he has an AEM intake and electric fans. He went from about 221 HP to maybe 232 HP by installing the custom tuned Unichip. If I can get 10 HP at the wheels that's in the ballpark. I'm just worried that something is backwards about being lean at WOT. Yellbird's ran leaner after getting the Unichip. I'm voting to go for it now. Jack told me that a highly tuned engine may not get the expected 7-9% increase. An example he gave me was of a new RX-8 that only picked up 8 HP at 8500 RPM! I thought he was talking RWHP, but maybe that was calculated at the flywheel - that wouldn't be much.

This is what I'm told...not reversed. And it stands to reason looking at the dyno, and this is why they are making more power at lower RPM...because it IS richer there, and not as much but still improved at top end. I would venture to say we will get more then you posted...but it's purely a guess. And as Yellbird said...it just plains runs smoother, better and more consistant. Yes...rich at WOT but at what RPM? Towards top end (5200) is where it leans out....but before it's rich...99% he was talking the NA 4.7L.
BTW...I added near top end (5200) to post...that may have mislead you.

MJ's 13 sec. Tundra has the factory air box........so.........
so do i understand this to be correct -
a s/c engine with short tube headers and free flow exhaust will have a map that was tuned with a FIPK?
....many things had been discussed early on ....
-did i miss this FIPK because i myself want to see the above mentioned engine dynoed with this option and without it -
i have seen no proven h.p. gains from this only increase in dirt taken into the engine.
-many guys here do not like any type of FIPK due to its intake of dirt proven through oil samples , but with that said, if now with the Unichip it really made a h.p. gain then im sure we would be happy with the map tuned for the FIPK.
This issue is what is now bugging me - is it that hard to test the trucks with a FIPK and without it? I will not vote untill this gets figured out. thanks Kevin
