I'm getting one put on sunday. Mainly because I use my truck for surfing and don't want any of my boards (which are worth about $300 a piece) to get stolen out the back.
I won't buy another SnugTop. About the only good thing about it is the nice design and fit. It contours to the truck lines nicely. But, the color was off the first time, and the dealer had already installed it when I came to pick it up. They did take it off and send it back. Now the color is good, but the paint seems easily scratched and chipped. The inside flip down window at the cab doesn't fit well and has to be pryed open with a screwdriver. The one handle release on the rear works hard, and due to some funky plastic parts, doesn't latch snuggly. The struts on the rear window failed after about 1 1/2 years. Some gasketing has come off causing water leakage. Keep looking. Good Luck.
On my silver snugtop sport shell, the paint is perfect and it looks great on the truck. I have had problems with the rear hatch staying latched. I've taken it back to the shell dealer that installed it for adjustment, which seems to have fixed the problem. Additionally, it is kind of a pain to be only able to access the rear by using a key.
Depending on the volume of the radio, I notice that when the truck is wet from morning dew or rain (even here in SoCal!) the rubber boot that seals against the cab of the truck produces a noise as the chasis flexes. I just can't figure out what the volume of the radio has to do with it...
Overall I am happy with shell, and it serves my needs.
I have a SnugTop Canopy and have had no problems with it. It has been on my truck for about a year and a half now. The front fold down window fits just fine, no leaks of any kind, and everything on it works. I am happy with my SnugTop.
Couple more points. I just finished loading the truck tonight. The window latch at the flip down window at the cab had worked itself loose again. So, if I wash the truck or it rains, the bed will be wet. Also,...and this really is a buggger... the rear window only opens level with the top of the shell. OK if you load things on a rack all the time that hang over the rear of the shell...then the window won't hit those things. Big deal. What really happens is that I hit my head on the window locking handle, or the window itself. SnugTop "thoughtfully" made the inside of the knob red, but it's about 5'7" above the ground. I've hit my head on this thing a 1000 times. If I jump up on the lowered tailgate, I have to duck around the opened rear window all the time. My shell is a 2003. I can only hope they redesigned by now.
I have a Snugtop XV on an '04 Tundra and I am quite pleased with it. I did some damage to it a while back (minor garage door closing error) and they repaired it for free...and I didn't have to pay for the shipping between CO and CA! I had a Leer on my '92 4x4 pickup and it was a good top, but the paint started to crack after about 5 years...we'll see how the Snugtop holds up.
I agree that the fit and design is great on the Snug top. The paint match was perfect. I have the same problem with the front fold down window being a bear to open and close. Clearly this is a bad design and I would physically try to open and close it before having a new one installed. I have had mine since june 2004 on my 02. I did not get the boot on this one but did on the one on my old Tacoma. I was told you could apply silicon spray to the boot to keep it from squealing and leaking.
I love my Snugtop SL lid w/keyless remote...has also 1 key hole in the middle instead of 2 at the corners. It was one of the first investments for my truck and I just love having a pretty big trunk. Plus I have the option to take it off when needed to...I recommend 2-3 people. It's been on my truck for almost 2 years and I've never had problems nor compaints.
Snugtops are great if you don't use your truck. I had one on my last truck and what a pain in the butt! If you have to haul something that is taller than the top you have two choices....1. Take the top off and then put it back on when you're done. Or 2. Borrow someone elses truck that doesn't have a topper. That's a bit embarrassing. I'll stick with my fully functional Truck.

yes, but it's more of a pain in the butt if thousands of dollars of tools are stolen or rain soaked. Use a trailer for the bigger stuff. One thing that I had hoped for with the topper was improved gas mileage due to aerodynamics. Didn't happen...

Yes, I think that is a myth. Here in SoCal I see tons of people driving with their tailgates down thinking that will increase their fuel mileage. I have since found out it does save about .0003 gallons per tank, or something crazy like that.
