If Toyota Made a New body style Toyota Tundra with a hybrid Option would you pay 6 to 9k more on one vs a gas Power 5.7 liter iforce V8 (poll provided)
Re: New hybrid Tundra would you buy one if offered?
No
It's not worth it
The extra cost upfront plus any money you save on gas you better put in the bank for battery pack replacement in about 5/6 years, prolly 5K or more to do that.
Re: New hybrid Tundra would you buy one if offered?
The current warranty on Toyota's hybrid vehicle batteries is 8 years/100,000 miles. You can buy a lot of gas with $6000 though.
The hybrid Tundra would have other benefits though. More power, with the addition of the electric motors. A potentially monstrous increase in torque (the little Prius electric motor puts out 298 ft-lbs by itself) with 100% of the electric-motor-produced torque available from 0 rpm through the entire range.
The people who buy diesels for the torque and not the way it sounds might be interested in this "miniature locomotive" setup.
Re: New hybrid Tundra would you buy one if offered?
Owners of the increasingly fashionable hybrids can write off $2,000 of the purchase price for these vehicles, which combine an electric motor with a gasoline-powered engine to produce fewer emissions. This should give the many Hollywood stars who own such environment-friendly autos slightly lower tax bills.
But on Jan. 1, the Energy Tax Incentives Act of 2005 took effect. Now buyers of environmentally friendly cars and trucks will get a tax credit on their returns to help offset the vehicle's cost.
This is much better than the previously allowed deduction, since with a tax credit, once you determine what you owe, the credit directly cuts your tax bill. It might even wipe out any taxes you owe. In essence, credits are more valuable tax breaks than deductions, since credits reduce your tax bill dollar for dollar.
Making the credit list
Exactly how much of a 2006 tax credit your vehicle provides, however, depends on a couple of factors.
Under the law, the maximum potential credit amount is $3,400, based on a combination of the qualifying vehicle's fuel economy and total expected lifetime fuel savings, using 2002 fuel efficiency numbers as a base. But the exact tax break figure per vehicle could be less.
Re: New hybrid Tundra would you buy one if offered?
I might consider buying a Tundra hybrid if the cost was not much higher than the regular Tundra BUT I would not pay an extra 10k for it. If it was only a few thousand maybe, but my guess is that it will cost a lot more than that.
Re: New hybrid Tundra would you buy one if offered?
With that sort of price premium, as stated above, absolutely not. I do want a hybrid V8, but I expect it in a reasonably priced vehicle. Ideally, I'd like to get a hybrid V6 or V8 in a Tacoma or Tundra in about five years when I'm ready for another vehicle.
Eventually, hyrbids will evolve to a more versatile engine. I expect, from GM of all companies, an Ethanol Hybrid in about 10 years or less.

A new body style would definately be nice, hybrid option would be intersting but not for an extra 6-9K. We'd probably be looking at $40-45k for a base Tundra. I'd rather have a nice luxury car like the lexus ES 350 for that kind of money.

Still to come: custom dash kit, JBA headers, exhaust, and eventually custom paint. And whatever else looks appealing!
Re: New hybrid Tundra would you buy one if offered?
I'd pay $2K - $3K extra for a hybrid - no more, and only on a lease. Now a turbo diesel hybrid that allowed for a bunch of extra oomph off the line and drastically increased mileage I might pay $6K - $8K for, just for the novelty. Still only on a lease. Plus, diesel in nice since its the only fuel that was available a day or two into the Hurricane Rita evacuation.
It would basically come down to the bottom line of payback on the investment over time, which at present, does not seem to be there unless the hybrid option is very cheap.
Re: New hybrid Tundra would you buy one if offered?
The extra cost you'll pay will almost never match the savings....at least that is what i keep reading. So no, I would not buy a hybrid...even if it is a Tundra hybrid.

Re: New hybrid Tundra would you buy one if offered?
i would rather wait for a diesel. they have more power, and better mileage. not to mention it should be cheaper if prices ever go back to where they should be. im still praying that will happen
