Re: happy with your automatic or do you wish you had a stick?
That is a tough call. While driving around on mostly open roads, I wish my Tundra had a manual tranny to go with the v8, it would be more fun. However, the 3 times this week that I have sat in traffic, I have been more than happy to have an auto.

If you're a pavement pounder, stay with an auto. Off road and automatic are a contradiction in terms. Still can't appreciate Toyota's thinking for not wanting to offer a manual in it's v8's. I went with a v6 just for the stick. My s/c'd truck with a URD kit thumps the crap out of my buddies v8 Tundra. Do whatever floats your boat...

I've owned both an auto T100 and a manual one. I felt the manual tranny got more out of the V6 engine, but the auto is nice in the city. It really depends on what you need it for.

I prefer auto to stick on all vehicles I own/drive.
Keep the fluids fresh and they give years and years of problem free service.
My '96 4WD T100 had 208K on it when I sold it over a year ago.
I see the new owner driving it around town from time to time - still going strong.
Re: happy with your automatic or do you wish you had a stick?
I test drove, but didn't buy a manual T100 because, though fun to drive and had more power, it had a gear sync problem and sometime it would need the clutch replaced. Bought a 97 T100 with an auto and sold it with 200k miles. Never had a problem. My mechanic recommended the auto over the manual for just these reasons: autos very rarely break, but manuals will need a clutch sometime and because we are fallible in our shifting, they are more prone to need repairs.

Prefer the stick. After 10 years of having it I don't notice the traffic on L.I. anymore. Most days I lean on the shifter and it drops. The petal is marshmallow anyway.

i'm in the midst of changing my 91 4 runner over from an auto to a manual. Just baught tranny and transfer case at an amazing deal of $200 delivered to my house. Just need to figure out what else i need to do.
Re: happy with your automatic or do you wish you had a stick?
I prefer a automatic now days
In the past with my manuals running deep water I would experience clutch pressure plate gluing itself to the flywheel. To free it up would have to ease up to a building tree etc. Then hold clutch down start up the truck and rip er free. not the best for the friction material but what ya going to do in the backcountry.
When rockcrawlin/steep hill climbing its a real trick/talent to keep vehicle running.
The auto in the Tundra really performs well in every situation I have thrown its way. Easy to edge it off a steep wash up and down rocky areas.
Re: happy with your automatic or do you wish you had a stick?
Overall, I prefer a stick, but on something as big as a full size truck, an automatic makes more sense. Plus where I live, there is a lot of stop-and-go city traffic and an automatic is less tiring than pumping a clutch every ten feet.
All a man really needs for happiness in this world is a good woman, a faithful dog, and a big-a$$ed set of tires on his truck.

Re: happy with your automatic or do you wish you had a stick?
There is normally a performance benefit to a manual, especially when low end torque is a bit weak such as with the 4.7, but sticks on bigger trucks are sometimes not very eloquent. The image of a three foot tall school bus shifter that rows two feet while shifting is not pretty, so I am content with an auto.
Re: happy with your automatic or do you wish you had a stick?
We have two Subaru's with manuals, one 5-speed and one 6-speed. In the sports cars I prefer the manual but in a full size or a truck I prefer the automatic. Had an S-10 with a manual and it was great, both my son's burned out the clutch. Once at 95,000 and second at 135,000.
