View Poll Results: How much do you pay for 0w20 oil per quart?
I am ready for my first oil change so I have been shopping for 0w20 full synthetic oil. Numerous Walmarts had nothing in stock except a few that had 5w20 but I want 0w20. Then I hit all the local auto parts stores and none of them had 0w20 in stock either. Everyone acted like I was crazy for even wanting it. I called a Toyota dealer and they had the Toyota brand 0w20 for $6.84 per quart which seemed high. They also had Mobil1 0w20 for $6.50 per quart which I thought was odd for a dealer to sell anything other than factory parts. Something told me to hold out so I went to another dealer and they sold me the Toyota factory 0w20 for $4.12 per quart which included a 10% discount since I purchased 16 quarts. The guy in the parts dept. said I was the first person to buy it in over a year. So what is going on here? Is 0w20 a rare oil or a bad choice? Is $4.12 per quart a terrible price? I found Amsoil and other brands on the web but those prices were $7-$8 per quart and of course you aren't going to order oil over the web. Am I missing out on some great secret here? Did I get robbed or did I luck into a great deal?

The owner of the dearship where I buy, told me that toyota 0w20 was a synthetic blend. He also said that it was made by mobile for toyota. I would say that the price you paid was very good. They will have to reorder soon. Although the oil you bought my be an old spec, check the part #'s. Walmart has 0w20 Mobile one here for $6.23. Not sure how accurate the info is but I have delt the dealer a long time

the dealers owner is wrong if he read the bottle it says full synthetic on it ...
4-5 bucks a bottle is a good price its better to just buy the dealer oil because the other oils end up costing more
Amsoil has it $10 a qt, mobile 1 autozone $6.41 a qt, do you really need 0w-20, The zero gets you minus 40 temps unless you live in Alaska I would do 5w-20, I thought the Toyota 0w-20 was not a synthetic if it is at $4 not too bad a price, I got 5w-20 PP BOGO price at under $3 per qt, even Dr AeHaas the guru of thin oil uses 5w-20 on his Lamborghini Murcielago, he does live in Sarasota Florida, heres a thread http://theoildrop.server101.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=888954&page=0&fpart=1&vc =1
I use 0w30 Castrol syntec not because I need 0w but because its very good oil. I'm sure we maybe seeing more 0w if manufacturers continue specifying it.
I stopped by Wally World today and picked up some Castrol Syntec 5w-20 in 5 qt jugs for 23 dollars and change a piece.

The Toyota factory 0w20 says "full synthetic" right on the front of the bottle. The same dealer had Toyota factory 5w20 for about half the price, I think it was $2.80 per quart without the discount applied. I read on some forums that 0w20 was still better on fuel economy even in warmer climates, and the truck manual recommends 0w20 for best fuel economy so that is what I got. Guess I will be happy with the price I paid then. Might go back and get a few more cases while they have it. The parts dept. said the price of the factory 0w20 is supposed to go up soon based on a memo they got from Toyota.

penzoil platinum 0w20 or 5w20 is the way to go. I loaded up on a buy one get one free at advance auto, 2.89 per quart. It is full sythentic, well group 3 but we wont go there...........
I'm a long time mobil1 user, but this price was very good.
Also, 0w20 and 5w20 should yield similar results in mpg. At operating temp, they are both 20 wts. THe 0w may be a bit better, but probally not even measurable, as long as we are talking syn vs syn.

Ya, You are correct. He had some old stock. Should have known, I looked in Feburary when I got the truck. It's time to change. I have 1400 miles or so. Not sure what to go with?
You did real good
That Penzoil Plat.is proven to be equal if not better then M1,future oil analyzes will confirm in the near future.

I became an Amsoil dealer just to get the price break. When I had my Diesel, it needed 15, count 'em, Fifteen quarts of oil, so the $30 yearly fee to be a dealer was off-set by my first purchase. Guess I'll keep running it in the Tundra, as I have found it to be a good product. Depending on what type, it costs about 5.50 per quart.
Been doing some research on oil analysis reports and Mobil 1 hasn't been the best.....interesting to see that Royal Purple did do well at all.
