This is a discussion thread titled "How many miles is too much??", within the Pricing and Dealers forum, part of the Marketplace Forums category.
New to this forum and looking at an '03 that is super clean in, out and under but has 150k on it. Good maintenance records and asking 10k for it. I,ve read up on the reliability but what is the cut off for resale mileage and what can be expected to fail?? BTW, this truck rides perfectly.
IMHO, I would never buy a truck with that many miles on it for anywhere near 10 grand. There is just too many things that could go wrong.
If you look around, you should be able to find a truck with fewer miles for 15 to 20 grand, which isn't much more then your looking to pay now.
I don't drive very many miles a year so It's worth it to me to save up and buy new. I have an 01 tacoma that I bought new in 01 and it hasd 80000 or so on it now.
I bought an 07 tundra this year but saw an 06 tundra on the lot with 15000 miles on it that the dealer was asking about 25000. I'm sure that the dealer could have been talked down to around 20000 or so.
Look around, there are deals to be had on these trucks. I know it's like looking for gold laying on the ground but if you don't let your emotions get the best of you and you wait for the right deal for you, you'll find what your looking for at the right price.
$10K seems pretty high for a vehicle with 150K miles, especially when they were giving away the 06 Tundras with $10-15K in rebates last year. This guy is asking too much. Also, do you plan on running this vehicle until 250K miles? If so, would you be able to recoup anything upon your sale in a few years. Good luck.
