This is a discussion thread titled "2008 Tundra is inadmissible to Canada", within the Pricing and Dealers forum, part of the Marketplace Forums category.
thanks for the info....I cannot believe the arrogance of Toyota....What makes them think that Canadians should pay so much more than the Americans??
I hope all Canadians put off their new vehicle purchases until the prices come down.....
I will
Even though it means me having to continue driving the heap of rust I am currently driving
I really feel we as consumers, are being pushed around, and RIV and the automakers are in cohouts.
Why not buy a 2007? There are still many around, and I got $2,500 rebate plus the reduction from the dealer of about another 2000, and took $20,000 off the Canadian price once all taxes, RIV, etc were calculated in.
2007 Tundra DC Limited, Red, Nav/Cam/ etc etc
LOVE THE TRUCK
Cory from SF Toyota is getting an option print out of a USA 2008 Tundra V8 w/ imobilzer. Then we can compare to Candian 2008 Tundra option code. If the codes match, then we can be 99% sure that the 2008 Tundra is admissable.
We are shopping for a RAV4 now, dealer tells me the 2008 Canadian Tundras are going to be much cheaper than the 2007s. Boned again! At least I got a good truck.
Side note, because the RAV4 is made in Japan, if you try to import one from the US to Canada, you have to pay 6.5% duty on it.

Check out Post #15 on the thread: 2008 RIV List - Import Risk Assessment . The Member gives some info from research he did on the immobilizer.
I don't understand the big deal?? Is the 2008 engine immobilizers not good enough? It sounds like Canadians get screwed by their close-to-socialist government.

WTF? The same truck is over 65 grand here and it only comes to 45 there. I wanted to know which dealership you got it from man, because im getting really annoyed with all this ****. I want to get the 4x4 5.7L Ltd crewmax w/navi and moonroof in case you were wondering. Any suggestions dude?

Stuball, please PM tundrag if you're going to respond about the US dealer that's selling to you. Not to be over-paranoid, but I think there's Toyota Canada reps trolling these forums looking to hammer US dealers if they find out they're selling to us.
My dealer here (GTA) called saying they have "huge significant savings" on the '07 Tundras...when I asked how much is "huge" he said about $2,000.00 off....I almost fell out of my chair from laughing so much as I hung the phone up on him.

We are getting severely hosed.
Thats a huge rebate for a TV, but not a Tundra.

There was an article in news about this a week or so ago. It really has nothing to do with the immobilizer. What Toyota and many other manufacturers are apparently doing is telling RIV Canada that these 2008 US vehicles don't meet Canadian standards and are therefore inadmissable. RIV doesn't check the vehicle it only goes along with what the manufacturer tells them. This is all an effort from manufacturers to prevent vehicles being imported privately and them losing the huge profits they are reaping from selling thru local Canadian dealers. With rise of the Canadian dollar the savings are huge across the border. The Canadian and American truck are identical, rolling off the exact same assembly line and yet it becomes inadmissable by one different letter in the vin. This is a disgusting business practise and we should all be contacting our MP's and complaining about this price gouging.
