The RIV Explanations section states any vehicle built after September 1, 2007 must be equipped with immobilizer meeting CMVSS 114. The RIV states that aftermarket immobilizers meeting CMVSS 114 are acceptable but the caution that manufacturers warranty may be voided as a result.
Stuball, do you think you comply??
How will Toyota corporate ship any of these vehicles to Canada without meeting this requirements??
Looks like I'm in the same boat now as well, I just put a downpayment on an 08 Tundra as well.
The province of Manitoba has gov't run insurance, they have a rebate program for vehicle owners who have immobilizer's installed. Any people who are thinking of importing any '08 vehicles that don't have immobilizer's shouldn't be to concerned.....i don't think. If a gov't run insurance company is promoting them, they did their homework to find out which ones will not have any impact on any manufacturers warranties.

Yikes!
The vehicle I am getting has the engine immobilizer installed. V6 model Tundras, which aren't available in Canada, do not come with the engine immobilizer. They are available to install in Canada. Might be a good idea to check this out to give yourself peace of mind.
The broker I was communicating with mentioned something about requiring a letter from Toyota ensuring compliance with the immobilizer....Has anyone heard anything about this? I would think if it is admissible on the RIV list, a letter would be redundant? If such a letter is required, getting it out of Toyota could be problematic....

I hate to be dis-honnest, but since the manufacturers are playing games to screw over Canadians, its probably justified.
May I suggest how easy it would be construct a imoblizer compliance letter from Toyota, and then fax to RIV. A simple Toyota letter head and about 10 mins using windows paint program.

I would suggest asking Canada Customs or RIV about this and let them tell you what needs to be done to a vehicle to make it comply. I'm sure they would be as helpful as they can be. After all, Canada Customs employees are also Canadian consumers that are getting screwed by the auto industry.
