Default 08 DC TRD buying opinions please & Thanks!

Ok so here's the deal: I have an 06 DC 4x4 with 10,000 miles on it. typical SR5 model, nice truck. I am looking at a 08 DC TRD 4x4 with a 5.7. now for the numbers (roounded) I owe 13,500 on my 06. the list on the 08 is 34,900 after the game play with rebate they offered my the truck for 27,400 but only want to give me $20,000 for my 06. which leaves me with about 7500 in positive equity. so before taxes the truch is going to be around 21,000

new one: 34,900msrp/ thier price: 30,400 +$3000 rebate= 27,400
mine: Owes 13,500 trade in value 20,000 up 6500

27,400 -6500= 20,900 and at 5.7% for 5 years

I think they are killing me on my trade in but what do you guys think? I want it, Buuuutttt??? I'm kinda ridding the fence!

thanks for any and all help!

I would keep your old truck, work towards paying it off and have no payments. Why are you wanting a new truck? I also have a gen 1 and love it. Sure a new truck would be nice but what would be nicer is having my truck paid for. My goal is to pay it off in another year. I just rolled 10,000 on mine and at this pace will be giving it to my daughter to drive in about 8 or 9 years then I will buy another one. If you need the towing capacity of the new one then that is a different story. Let us know how it works out.

I couldnt agree with you more! EXCEPT! when the little devil on my shoulder comes knockin and telling me I want one and have to have it then its another story. For that matter, I dont need the one I have. I tow nothing, go off roading very little and have a 10 miles round tirp commute to work. I guess its just the fact that I love my tundra and love that new 08 TRD even more. I need to listen to you and forget the whole thing...But of course I will be the first one to admit , I'll be the idiot at the dealer soon signing the paperwork. Who knows? Thanks for the great advice! Point is very well taken! Thanks!

I'm "temporarily" keeping my '05 D-cab, probably wait 'til '09's come out, now. But I can tell you that dealer trade-in for '05's in the Northeast range from $17-20k regularly. I got a real offer for $22k on mine but that was on an in stock '08 CrewMax that had been on the lot for 3 months. My '05 only has 24k miles on it, so it'd pull the higher range for trade values.

$20k trade on an '06 seems reasonable, try to bump them another $1000 and call it a day. Punch in all your options at KBB, edmunds and NADA. You'll get three Trade Values, take the average of the three and add a grand or two and use that as your starting point. That or accept their trade offer, but get them to throw in a few dealer installed options you want/need. Good luck. BTW - shop around other dealers, know what invoice is on the new truck and what you're willing to pay for it, and what you're willing to accept on your '06 for trade.
