Default Possible purchase tomorrow... need some advise.

I’ve been thinking about buying a new truck for a while now. I wanted to get some things squared away and they finally are. I would like to know what other people think. The truck that I want has to have a few things. It has to be Silver. I’ve owned black for the last three vehicles and I hate TRYING to keep it clean. I plan on lifting it 6” with 35s, so it would have to be kept outside (I don’t want to deal with a dark color). It has to have the black interior… I’m just not a fan of the gray. And it has to be 4x4 and a DC.

Through Toyota, the one that I want is the basic SR5 trim with option A. So, the truck would be $33645. The one my local dealer has/can get has everything I want, plus the offroad package, some floor mats, and a chrome exhaust tip. That one goes for $34,963. I just don’t want to pay for the offroad package that I’ll replace later on. My issue is the rebate. I would have to build one and that means I wouldn’t take delivery of it for a while, at least not this month with the current rebate. On the other hand, I can have the other one now plus the rebate.

For arguments sake, I pay MSRP for the one with the extra stuff. It would be $32463 AFTER the rebate. The one I order would be $33645 with the possibility of not having the rebate when I take delivery. The one I can get now does have everything that I want, and a few extras that really aren’t that bad.

What does everyone think is going to happen to the rebate next month, assuming I can take delivery in April? Do you think there still will be one? Should I not be greedy and buy the one I can get now with the options I like with the current rebate?

Just wanted some other people’s thoughts… I don’t mind waiting for the truck, I’ve been waiting for 7 months now.

Thanks, Mike

1st of all, why are you paying MSRP?
Don't, you do not have to.

The rebates are not going to go away, I predict they will be the same or better next month.

Build your truck here...> Sam's Club Auto, Boat, and RV Program powered by MSI they seem to have the most accurate information.
Make sure you build it with the exact options it has or you can get and it will give you invoice price.

I know for a fact Toyota of Puyallup will split the difference (off the lot or ordered)...
Meaning, if they pay 38k and MSRP is 42K, you pay 40K
So now let's say you settle on the 40K, now subtract the rebate and add the tax and advertising (they won't give that stuff up).

Now if you are a really shrewd buyer, you may be able to do even better, there is so much that goes into how vehicles are priced. Some of which can be used as an advantage when negotiating.

Who are you working with down there?
They are all pretty good guys and their service dept. is second to none.

Let me know if I can help, or hook you up with one of the guys I use in Puyallup.

I'd go for the one they have. You'll probably end up using some of the stuff on there. I'm guessing you'll have all weather mats being in Puyallup. Unless you are paying cash or putting a huge chunk down or going to pay it off way early consider the APR instead of the rebate. It may save you more money in the long run.

If you do decide to wait, get a Tundra Grade with all the SR5 stuff added. It actually comes out a little cheaper. You're just missing the SR5 badge, that's all.

Thanks. I wouldn't pay MSRP. I was just using it as an example of what the final cost would be with and without the rebates.

I priced the truck through the site, and it's about the same as other sites (KBB, Edmonds, USAA). Invoice is about $30,323 and MSRP is $33,645. I was thinking about offering $31000, but not sure what they say. The site says others are paying about $31600.

I'm working with Eddie right now, and have been for a while. Nice guy.

Thanks, Mike

I’ll have to look into the Tundra Grade. I do want the bucket seats, so I’ll check Toyota and see what comes standard and what the options are for the tundra grade. I also looked into the interest rates. I’m going to put down about 20 with my trade in, so the rebate might be a better option for me.

It looks like a "fully loaded" Tundra Grade is $32,772. It appears to have the same stuff as the SR5 trim, just minus the option for the Deck Rail System with four adjustable tie-down cleats.

**nevermind** There are some things I like in the SR5 trim that's not available in the Tundra Grade.

Offer 29500, they'll say no way that's under invoice. Tell them okay, you'll pay $30,300. That's it. They say no, walk out the door. Tell them you're heading to the next Toyota dealer. Be tough. On President's Day, a dealer had all the trucks on the lot knocked down $4K. Be tough and willing to walk, you'll get it.

I wouldn't mind paying 31K if they give me a decent trade in on my VW. I went in a few months ago and they offered me about $8800, which I was happy with. It's also about what other sites say my car is worth. I'll just eat the money I spent on the body kit, wheels, etc.... It's time for a grown up vehicle. (haha that's what a police officer said to me when I got pulled over and told her I was planning on selling the car soon)

I walked out on a dealer when they wouldn't accept my offer and they caught me at my car . I got the vehicle and a job offer!
