I'm beginning to wonder whether the dealership I ordered a Tundra from has actually ordered a Tundra from the factory or not. 4 weeks after ordering, we haven't been given an expected arrival date. Did they take our deposit with the intention of waiting until they can find exactly what we wanted in a search of their inventory and their affiliates, or did they actually order exactly what we wanted from Toyota?
Did anyone else order a Tundra? Did the dealership where you ordered give you an expected date for arrival? Is there any documentation they showed that can verify that they ordered a truck?
Our preferences were pretty rare. Limited CrewMax with Redrock interior and Salsa Red Exterior. They told us it would probably take 4 months to get that and asked us if we could select any alternates. So we told them black would be okay. Now it's been four weeks and they haven't given us an expected delivery date. I don't necessarily expect it to be delivered by now, but I would expect the factory to be able to estimate a delivery date if it were actually ordered. Would you expect to have an approximate delivery date at this point?
Find one yourself. Go to Toyota's web site and start entering zip codes for towns/cities close by and check the other dealership's inventories. When I told our local dealer I wanted a RCSB 5.7, he said it would take six months to get, end of discussion. I found one in San Antonio at Universal Toyota, made the deal over the phone and went and picked it up..........6 days later, not 6 months.

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience!
As I understand it with Toyota, a "special order" is more liek a "special order request". Toyota dealers, from what I understand, put in orders twice a month, on the 1st and 15th. If the truck that you want is BEING MADE ALREADY, they can ask that it be put into their stock. So unlike BMW, Audi, etc, where they actually take your special order put it in a computer, get you a VIN number and specially make the car to your exact specifications on the assembly line, Toyota will put in a request for the truck you want, if that truck is already being made by the factory, they will try to get it for you. If the truck is NOT being made, then they will set aside your "special order" and try the next time, 2 weeks later. This process can go on forever if the dealer has his head up his azz. If he is on it, after a few tries he will call you and tell you that he cant get the truck and ask for your alternatives. Now this is the way it works for the RAV4, I am assuming its the same for all models, but I could be wrong.

What he said. Also, when you find a truck on the lot, the dealer sitting on it is going to be inclined to want to deal. . . they want that sale. Your price will be better than if your current dealer does a trade for the truck you want. . .
Good luck.

x2 I was in car sales for years, i got out because I hated screwing and lying to people... If the combination is available, it is out there. It will be a lot cheaper if you find it over the internet anyway because they want your deal, if you are coming from 500 or 1000 miles away, they need to intice you to actually come and pick it up. That was the best advice I saw on this thread.
Did you order from your dealer listed at the top of the post? I did not have a good expereince with them when shopping for a van a few years ago. A lot of games, etc. I ended up buying a Highlander from El Cajon Toyota and it was a completely different experience.
I bought/ordered a Tundra from Dianne Whitmire at Manhattan Beach Toyota and it was on the lot 4/5 weeks later. It is a 2 hour drive, but it was the best experience for me.
I just ordered an 08 to my exact specs from the factory and I had it in less than a month. 3 days after the dealer processed the order I had a expected delivery date which changed a few times to the better. They anticipated it would take close to 6 weeks but it turned out to be right around 4 weeks.

my dad had to wait almost 4 months to get his tundra. it wasn't a common order, but after about 2-3 weeks when we put the order in, we got the expected arrival date from the dealership. it was well worth the wait b/c we haven't seen one tundra like ours even on this forum.
a co worker of mine ordered his black crewmax 4x4 limited with sand beige interior because he wanted certain crap (id have just gone and picked one out from a dealership, the combos are out there) and it took him forever...never got a set in stone delivery date for the longest......
Well, I'm in the same boat. I ordered my Tundra and the wife's Sienna on 03/14/2008. They gave us a 30-90 day ETA. That is a huge window if you ask me. I'm still waiting. I visited the dealership once (last weekend) to see if there was any update. I don't want to just bug them. They told us that they were going to "check" to see if one is ***. I don't recall the acronym that he used but it was a "modifiable" vehicle. They are very vague and do not explain much. I just tried to remain pleasant and left. I really don't know anything.
If I get a call from the dealership as AGSWIN describes in his post that the dealer might call and suggest that I get an alternative, I will most certainly get an evil streak like the disgruntled employee in the movie Office Space and begin to torch things!
I do not consider my order to be outrageous in any way. Also, if you allow 30 bazillion configuration options of something, have a good method to deliver that product. My truck is pretty simple:
Exterior Color = Pyrite
Interior Color = Tan Leather
Options:
2008 4X4 CrewMax Ltd. Short Bed 5.7L V8 6 Spd Auto
Extra Mile Option Package B
Vehicle Shield Package
Tow Mirrors: Manually Extendable, Power
Daytime Running Lights
Remote Start
Back-Up Camera W/Monitor
Molded Dash Applique
Bed Liner (Under Rail)
All simple things. I would consider that a Pyrite CM 4x4 should be easy and drop in a few changes. Poof, it's done! I guess it is not that simple for them. I'll just try and remain patient for my new truck. I am finding it harder to wait because I have already watched every available Tundra video on YouTube, read every post that I can find, read every review I could find, STILL continued to compare it against my second place F-250 and I'm getting sick of walking around parking lots/garages and checking out all of the sweet TUNDRAS that people have!

theres no reason to wait that long for this truck. nothing here is abnormal or unusual, its got to be on a lot somewhere....or on a lot where they can just add remote start and bed liner (i wouldnt order that option-i have it just because it wsa on mine when i bought it- id get spray in)...
Took 6 weeks to get mine. Never did get an actual arrival date. Even after
they knew it had made it from the manufacturer to port, they wouldn't nail down a specific day when it would arrive at the dealership. I went up north for 10 days and they told me "it will be here when you get back". It arrived the day before I got back. They had originally estimated that it would take 3 weeks.

I went online to get mine, I used automart.com and Toyota certified vehicle site, I was looking for a very rare used truck, and after sending a couple dozen e-mails off to different dealers listing the exact truck I wanted. I got alot of annoying calls from salesmen trying to sell me everything but what I wanted. Then one from Flordia came back with the full package and then some (3500.00 in accessories included), Certainly worth a try, it worked out great for me.
I ordered mine on April 12, 2007 and took delivery on May 31, 2007. Roughly a 6 week time frame even though the dealer initially told me 3 months because of the configuration that I wanted. Black CM with Black Interior and some other options. My dealer checked the work in progress on the factory assembly line and was able to earmark a Black CM for me and then put in the request for Black Interior. My issue was that they didn't offer that color combination so I had to go through the process of special ordering.
Is there another dealer in your area that you can work with? I even went so far as to call three dealers in three states for quotes and time estimates before ultimately submitting my order in Bend.
