This is a discussion thread titled "Employee Pricing??", within the Pricing and Dealers forum, part of the Marketplace Forums category.
A friend of mine works for a huge car dealer and he is service manager for Mercedes. The company he works for also sells Toyota . He told me that he could possibly get me a employee rate on a new tundra. He said that they could make me a janator for the day.

Is this possible?
No. Its not possible. Toyota does not have "employee pricing" at the dealer level. I think they do at the factory level, but nothing for the dealers. Now... some dealers may cut their employees a better deal and that might be what he's talking about, but remember that the dealer's cost remains the same. Its not like Ford and Chevy that have associate programs where the empolyees get special breaks that even the dealers don't get.

What about when the domestic plates like Chevy and Dodge had their "employee pricing" event a few years back - were those deals truly what factory employees would have paid through their pricing plans, or was that all just a marketing ploy?
My father in law is retired from GM. I bought a Pontiac Vibe with his discount and it seemed to save a little. The biggest thing was it seemed the dealer had no control over the price and had to run everything through GM before they could close the deal. I guess the only way to get close to an employee discount with Toyota is to by a Vibe as it is a sister to the Matrix. Worth the cost as the wife drives 80 miles a day and it gets great mpg.

Those were real deals. I once worked at a Chevy store and employee pricing was better than I could do for anybody else. There is a funny catch though. Those prices can still be negotiated. At least they could back in 1997 when I worked there. When a car was sold at that price, the manufacturer reimbursed the dealer for a profit roughly equal to the difference between invoice and regular MSRP. It was a good deal all around. The dealer made money and the customer got a deal that they otherwise couldn't get.

I work for Toyota Carlsbad. Employees pay a hundred dollars over Invoice (what the dealership pays for the vehicle). I purchased my 07 tundra I got employee pricing plus I got rebates which means I got a really really good price on my truck. On used vehicles its different. Used vehicles the price can vary.
hard to believe but I can sell a car to a customer cheaper than I can sell one to myself. I can buy any of our cars for invoice but the owner will let me go back of invoice on some units to keep a local customer from going out of town because we assume we will make it up on service later. Sounds crazy but it is true
as stated earlier, Toyota doesnt have dealership level employee pricing. Only at the factory. Each dealership might have their own policy though
