Pricing and DealersDiscussions that are specific to vehicle pricing, preferred dealer pricing, current incentives, rebates, and experiences.
This is a discussion thread titled "2009 Tundra Options, Colors, etc.", within the Pricing and Dealers forum, part of the Marketplace Forums category.
Production starts the first week of August. Tenatively, we should have them by the end of August, but if I were asked to make a promise, it would be for early September.
I have not started taking orders and generally prefer not to until we have pricing. I also prefer not to take orders until we actually start getting them allocated. That will not be until late June or early July. If a person wanted to place an order, I could, but it would be understood that equipment and price is subject to change until we actually get them in the supply line.
As far as I can tell, there are no changes to the DC except they are adding flex fuel models. I don't yet know if that's E85 or CNG flex fuel. I'm hoping its not E85 as I really have issues with the politics of that. I have a feeling that I'm going to be disappointed at the answer when I find it.
The only other changes I can see is that memory seats are no longer standard on the CM Limited but will be an option as it already is on the DC Limited.
I should also comment on the source of all of this. This is from the Spec Book that dealers can see. Its the only guide that the regional distributors use when placing orders to the factory for the regions. Its VERY official and also very confusing. Its not a public consumption document and would cause all manner of confusion if sent out in raw form.

Toyota will be adding an E85 2009 Tundra In Sept from my source. It's been reported Deep within Texas a Double Cab E85 Tundra is at the Texas plant right now for review. There is a delay in the upcoming diesel as well due to gas prices so wouldn't expect that next year. Hybrid Tundra is going to be a late one yet Gm seemed to beet Toyota on the punch line on the First Hybrid Full Sized truck and Suv..
Personally Im waiting on the Tundra Interiors mainly dash and gauge cluster it's received a lot of bad press which Toyota very likely will address ..
I can't see any significant changes to any Tundra model other than that MO (memory option) being optional on Limiteds only... and I still can't get the MO to pair with the TM (tow mirrors) so no Memory option package when you have tow mirrors ...still.
The E85 is the new model, Steve. We won't get it in CA I hear.

E85 vehicles get about 1/3 MPG less when using E85 as it is so very inefficient. They need a CNG model since that tech has been around since the 70's on vehicles for mass production...
No changes to the colors, they were all the same. My 2009 is arriving the 1st to 2nd week of September at this point. I hope the 14 day plant shut down doesn't affect my vehicle.

I hate to tell you, but you're going to be in for a MUCH longer wait. The plant is not being idled for 2 weeks. Its being idled until November which is when they will begin 2009 production.

Well there are two plants right? They can't be shutting both down. I know the dealers here are still slammed with 2008's on the lots, but I would think they still have to satisfy any orders that have alreay been placed for 2009 vehicles.

Yep Princeton and Texas are the Toyota Plant's...
Usually the time period for Tundra (new model year is Sept) but given the recent changes Toyota has done on delaying product's dates are subjective to change..

"Toyota will suspend production of the Tundra pickup at its San Antonio truck plant and the Sequoia sport utility vehicle at its Princeton, Ind., plant for three months starting Aug. 8 because of declining demand. Next spring, it will stop producing Tundras in Princeton and will consolidate all truck production in San Antonio."
So with one plant open I should still be good. Plus I checked with our Fleet Manager with Enterprise and at this point she said I now have a promised delivery date of Sep. 1st. So I'll just cross my fingers. Otherwise I am gonna be pissed, because the order has already been placed, and there is no backing out I have to wait for the 09, no matter how long it takes.
This is crazy that people are backing off from 15 to 20 mpg vehicles. Honestly, if you want the power you gotta pay at the pump as well. I knew this day would eventually come. For the past 10 years I have seen average car horsepower go from 150 to 250ish. Now here we go in the other direction. I'm sorry but I'll take quick and expensive over slow and getting crushed by a tractor trailer on I-81. If you know the interstate, you know what i am talking about.
You will be sadly disappointed. Both plants are idle. The article doesn't even mention the other part of the story. The date they chose to idle the lines (and it is both plants), is August 8th. That was the start date for the 2009 model year. The part they didn't mention is that there are no more 2008s going down those lines either. They are finishing up with what was already in the pipeline, but that's it. There will be no more until mid-November.
