This is a discussion thread titled "Any Canadian rebates or better buying from U.S ?", within the Pricing and Dealers forum, part of the Marketplace Forums category.
Any Canadian rebates or am I better off buying one from U.S. the pricing on these trucks is insane down here. I am not paying 55 thousand for crewmax limited, wondering if rebates are coming to Canada soon.

1: You won't be on this list long, you'll be on dealers and pricing or some such pretty soon.
2: Savings in US are unbelievable. For LTD, even after their pricing structure change, you'll save between $15,000-20,000 after taxes if you buy in US. No amount of rebate will match that. I know 'cause I priced mine locally and they wanted 53,000 ballpark CDN for a DC LTD loaded, I got it for about 35,000 CDN (36,000 US) (sticker was $42,000 US) and didn't even have the opportunity to negotiate them down. Importation is NOT a big hassle. Unless (as happened to someone else on this forum, who went through a broker, maybe that was the problem, anyway they charged him DUTY to import the truck. Evidently the border people never heard of NAFTA or couldn't read the label on the truck that said "built in Texas".

Insane price difference, I have family in U.S which would make it easier for me to purchase the truck down there.
$2000 cash back on 2008 Tundras. However pricing in Canada is still ridiculous compared to USA.
One thing to note is that USA rebates are not applicable to Canadians (let alone trying to find an american dealer to sell to you). At least that's what my USA dealer told me when I was pricing the Tundras in the USA. I ended up having to purchase it through my amerifriend.
Re: Any Canadian rebates or better buying from U.S ?
yeah looks like I have to wait for the 2009 and then buy one in the U.S
Toyota is making it harder for Canadians to buy trucks in U.S but the prices in Canada are so high, if it was within 3 thousand dollars, I would buy here but if I am saving 12 grand in U.S it doesn't make any sense for me to buy here. It isn't too much hassle either, I spoke to few dealers that are willing to make the deal.
Re: Any Canadian rebates or better buying from U.S ?
You may consider buying slightly used. I bought my 07 DC TRD in NJ in Nov 2007 from a Toyota Dealer. They had no issues selling used but would not sell me new. Mine had 4000 miles on it and was a dealer demo. Got it for an insane price of $28,000 USD which converted to $26,800 CDN at the time. Even when I account for the big discounts at the time (approx $5000) and throw in my expenses, I still saved about $14,000. Additionally, Toyota has no issues with honouring the warranty
Re: Any Canadian rebates or better buying from U.S ?
The trick is going to be finding a dealer in the US who is willing to sell to you. If a dealer believes the truck will be titled in Canada, he runs a huge risk. Selling to a person who will title it outside of the country means they will not get any rebate money. They will not get to count it for allocation purposes. Worst of all, if there are any warranty claims that come through TMS, the dealer will be held liable for them.
There are other consequences as well. The above list is only the contractual ones. In reality, it means that the dealer will be on Toyota's radar. Any problems or infractions will be magnified. Dealers do not want to have a strained relation with Toyota.
Its not that US dealers don't want to sell to Candaians. We would LOVE to sell to anybody with the money. We are not however, anxious to get socked with fees and charges from TMS and we really don't want to go to war with the manufacturer.

I echo that statement totally

Re: Any Canadian rebates or better buying from U.S ?
Easiest thing to do is buy a used one with low miles. I bought a Tundra DC LTD from a US Toyota dealer w/ 3600 miles on it and he was happy to sell it to me. He told me he could not sell a new one to me because Toyota USA was cracking down on this and they lose an allocation if it is not titled in the US. BTW, At the time I saved about $14,000 after all fee's, GST, etc. It was not a big deal at all to import the truck. I heard that Toyota Canada is having another price reduction on these trucks?
I guess $1.35/L for fuel is starting to have an effect on sales up here?

actually I am starting to think more about the gas, I will be using the truck for work, i drive 100-120 kilometer's a day in the city, I don't know what to do anymore. I might just stay away from buying the truck.
Re: Any Canadian rebates or better buying from U.S ?
Do you need a truck for work?
My new 5.7L tundra gets BETTER mileage than my 2004 4.7L tundra did! I only get slightly worse mileage in the new Tundra than I did way back when I owned a 1991 Toyota 4x4 P/U.
In the city I get 14.5-15 L/100km, and on the hiway I get 12.5L/100km. It is a DC 4x4 with the 5.7. Not bad....
The way I look at it I am still ahead even with retarded gas prices because of the money I saved on my truck!
