Default Can you order a truck from toyota?

Well since a deer introduced himself to the front of my trade in, I was set back on getting a truck. Im over in middletown NY, the only 2 dealers near me are Jhonstons Toyota and DCH in wappinggers falls NY. Jhonstons only has a White DC TRD 5.7 Rock Warrior and a sliver DC 5.7. DCH has a bright red 5.7 DC ( used ) and a white DC 5.7. To be honest next week is when im looking to buy my Tundra, and these are slim pickings as far as im concerend. The white DC TRD RW is nice, and if worst comes to worse I'll take that. But anyway, to the point at hand, because of the slim pickings I asked a salesman at Jhonstons if I could just order a truck how I want it and he said " No you can't because Toyota just ships the trucks to us, its not like US car dealers where you can just order a vehicle how you want it " . I'm not sure if he was trying to get me out of his face or this is true. Has anyone out there ordered their truck how they wanted it like I want to? Im looking to do a Double Cab, Nautical Blue, SR5, TRD, 5.7, black interior, XM, Tow package. It's not like im looking for anything wild or crazy, I think this truck is something that should be on every lot. I know I've posted on here a few times about buying a Tundra and I need to just pull the trigger and buy one already, however if im going new I want it to be the way I want it to be and not settle for less. Again, thanks for the input.

Yes, you can order it...but it's called "preference" and it's not like ordering ala carte from a menu. You can only order it within a region how Toyota builds them for the region. You can change things like paint and interior color, and you can add some accessories and a few options.
If you go to the mothership (Toyota Cars, Trucks, SUVs & Accessories) and "build your own" using your zip code, you should be able to order or "preference" what ever you can build for your area.

That's what I did when I ordered mine...took just under two months till the keys were in my hand and I was writing the check.

That's about the gist of it, maybe one of the resident TS salesmen/women will chime in with more info.

Based on Toyota website and local dealers NO.. Typically toyota will manufacturer a vehicle to an area that is most common to the region from previous purchases or requests only. There is a rare occasion that a dealer may have inside connection to corporate that a truck can be ordered as you say a la carte but this is rare. You really have to a good dealer willing to do this for you since Toyota does not custom order a vehicle and the purchaser backs out and the dealer is stuck with a very custom truck no body else wants.

I did this with my SR5 to build it how I wanted. I did not want everything that came with the limited. I have the navigation, sound system, bucket seats, sunroof, brushed stainless steel step-ups, and probably something else that I am leaving out. This is the way to go, but I did have to wait about 2 months or so. I did this throught Twin City Toyota in Herculaneum, Missouri.....

the guys are right.they do build certain trucks for specific regions.i work for toyota and when buying,do a search through different dealers in a certain area.most dealers will do what is called a"dealer trade" for a specific vehicle. they offered a great deal on vehicles and had to do a search and bought our 08 275 miiles away.sometimes you can purchase a truck for another dealer a distance away and they will only charge the "delivery charge" to get it to you. go out side your local area, take it out 250 or 500 miles to see if there are any trucks that fit your description with what they call "factory options".you cannot change these and buy all of you 'dealer options" either at the dealer or aftermarket.

I ordered my 07 since the only interior color available for a black CM was tan and I wanted black. The dealer used my information and the list of options/packages I wanted, put it into the system and there just happened to be a black CM on the assembly line they were able to secure. It was actually pretty convenient, I had my truck within 2 months of the order date and it was the exact configuration I wanted. Then of course I made on additional mod to it, installing black leather the same week it arrived. I will probably drive this truck for 10 years and it made sense to preference the truck and get exactly what I wanted.

hi wht a dealership will do when you go in with a list of what you want, is they have access to the data base fo toyota tundra or any toyota vehicles. what they do is search the data base, for all the things you asked for. they can usually find something so close that you aked for. sometimes everything you asked for, if it is in lets say south east yard. they can get that truck for you. if they can find it in calf, they can bargin with that dealership for that truck for you.

as far as they build it ecactly as you want it, it doesn't happen that way, like years ago.
they will try there best to find the truck that has eactly what you want, sometimes they find it, sometimes it is as close as they can get it. you best chance of getting what you want, is when they 1st come out with it. like may or june the 2010's will come out, that will be your best shot in getting all the options ,& exterior and interior colors you want. after that the can install anything that they can buy such as trd items and install them for you. including the gentrex mirror's. leather seats, etc

This is exactly what my dealer did to get me the 4.7L tundra I requested, by putting in a locate request bulletin out to the dealerships in Alberta. They found my preferred truck in Edmonton, had it shipped down to the dealership. They called me and the deal was completed the same day once it was off the car hauler.

Supposedly they are built right at the factory to a customers specifications which is what makes Toyota a unique manufacturer. Watch these videos on Toyota's manufacturing process and you'll hear them mention it: Operations: 11-21-08 Lean, TPS, Kaizen, Kanban & Value Streams « Financial Economics - Wayne Marr

They also build them without storing any inventory, something GM has been trying to reproduce for decades.

Ordered my RCSB TRD 4WD Silver Sky. This isn't available in the midwest suposedly but my dealer got me mostly what I wanted. First dealer said couldn't be done but would find one which they could not. There was still some limitations and it took a month for the system to acknowledge the order but I think that was because of the truck just becoming out. The BL is it depends on the dealer I think.

There's a trick. Normally, you can order a tundra, I ordered mine in 2007, and it was the only one in the east with its configuration.

The problem is the economy. Talked with a fleet mgr while I was getting mine serviced a couple weeks ago...I was just shooting the breezze with him about the trucks and difficulty with the economy. He said: Toyota has shut down the Texas plant until they're redy to ramp up the '10 models, so they are not currently producing. Those texas plant workers are getting paid their regular $$ doing community service work for the interim. He didn't say anything about the Indiana plant.

This may be why you cannot order one...at least until '10s come out. The BS about not making to order was just that, B.S.....they can customize to a degree (like was said earlier)

Well, I just ordered a 2010 Tundra from the factory that is not available in my region (or anywhere) so it can be done.

It is a DC, long bed, 4x4, 5.7L (code 8345) with CK, RB, RL, DX, ST, TM, WR, in Pyrite Mica w/Sand interior.

The Power Sliding Rear Window (WX) and fancy mirror (EC) could not be put on it however. The mirror can be done aftermarket anyway. Strangely, the WX can be had on short bed DCs.

You just have to find a dealer that will put forth the effort. San Francisco Toyota did it and the Internet sales guy is a member here as well. Anyone in the area would benefit from dealing with him.
