Yesterday I followed my wife to Future Ford and Kia of Clovis to have the van serviced. It needed an oil-change and a couple of items repaired presumably under warranty. The van has 29k miles and the shifter lock was acting up. Often the shifter button would not work correctly and that prevented the shifter from entering or exiting park properly. In addition the blinkers were acting up, often but not always they would blink fast and as a result the rear blinkers would not work at all.
Anyway she pulled up in the van into Future Ford of Clovis since the Kia service department moved next door into Fords service department. The service adviser promptly took her information and looked over the van as all service advisor's do. I waited in sight in the other car for her to return. He advised that she have the 30k service done and she asked how much that would be. The quoted her a price in excess of $700.00

just for the 30k service. She of course immediately declined that absurdity and waited for him to complete his inspection. She left the van to have the work completed and returned to me in the car. I was shocked at the pricing and thought to myself "not in this lifetime". I can't believe anyone in their right mind for pay that much for servicing that's just ridiculous.
Later the service adviser called and reported that the part to repair the shifter would have to be ordered and installed in about a week. He also claimed that the reason the blinkers were acting up was because the tow wiring was presumably bad and it would cost us $120 to investigate the problem. The tow wiring has been on the van for a year and all of a sudden it's interfering with the blinkers. That's very unlikely and I think they're just trying to make some extra money replacing a flasher. So she told him to replace the faulty shifter mechanism under warranty, change the oil and leave the flasher problem alone. I can't help but wonder if service advisers seriously try and sell everything to women when they come in knowing that they'll likely be unchallenged. The van remains at the dealership until the part comes in.
