Default Deal or no deal - 2010 Tundra

OK, here’s the deal offered for a 2010 Tundra w/these options:

-4x4, Double Cab, Long Bed, 5.7 V8, 6-speed AT (Model 8345)
-Tow Package[14] (TO)
-40-20-40 Bench Seat
-Pyrite Mica/Sand Beige fabric

The group option has the cold weather pkg (CW), stock radio (DZ), daytime running lights (RL), styled wheel w/255/70R-18 tires (ST), tow mirrors (TM), sliding rear window (WR), floor mats (CP), and brushed SS step boards (RB) all for $1547.

The Toyota website has the truck for $33327, the dealer says $34620 but is willing to “let it go” for $31800. I offered $28000 with the automatic rear-view mirror included (EC). Any thoughts???

I advise people to always low-ball the dealer on their first offer. It sets the tone for negotiations and tells the dealer that you aren't just going to be a lay-down sale.

Believe me if you were trading a car or truck, they would low-ball you on the initial offer for your vehicle. Always, always make your first offer less than you are actually willing to pay, it leaves you room to move up while getting the dealership to move down.

It's all about give and take, I know people hate this part of the car buying process, but it is the way it works. So educate yourself and make the best deal possible...

Good Luck!!

hi, give them 33,000 out the door.
if they give you the mirror & the trd s/c.
if not, don't give up.
check ebay.
there are always dealership's willing to deal.
take your time,
see what sparks will do.
sales are still way way down. if you wait, they will be offering huge discount's. trucks are not moving, espeically now that gas has gone way up & will continue to go up. i just saw, 93 octane at 2.76.
before you know it ,it will be over 3bucks and rising.
be careful.

The thoughts and advice on this offer are appreciated.

Further information recently obtained:

The dealer's invoice on the 8345 base model is $29090 and the MSRP of a stripped truck is $31725. It is the typical 9% mark-up.

The dealer holdback, WFR, and TDA amounts to 5% of that price, or about $1500. Subtracting that from the dealer's invoice makes the bottom line about $28500 with virtually no dealer profit.

Then tack on the accessories package at MSRP $1547 and we are back to $29000 or thereabouts. My offer of $28000 is definitely "low-ball". If I allow them a 3% to 4% profit margin then the truck comes in at very close to $30000. I'd probably take it at that price.

We will see if sales are slow enough to bring incentives into play in the future. The truck is not essential until September.

This will be a hunting/work truck so the S/C is a bit over the top for my application.

Well, no deal. A local dealer beat the price by over $1000. It is ordered and on the way.

End of the truck hunt and end of thread.

I might not have the math right... but it looks like dealer costs are:

$28543 truck
1036 options
800 dest.
411 TDA
309 WFR
619 Hold back

$31718

If you don't mind, what were you able to do off of that?

The accessories, $1036, was already in the $28453 total. To that was added the dealer ad-ins.

You had the total at $28543 so that was a $90 addition as well.

BTW, the deal fell through since Toyota's website says that a WX option (power horizontal sliding rear window) was available for model 8345 and was what I originally wanted rather than the WR. Toyota refused to let the dealer order it because it was an option only available out of my region.

It may seem like a minor issue but the power window would serve my purposes nicely. I posted another topic to try to see where the truck will be allowed to be sent by the Toyota hierarchy.
