Default Good Pricing on New Tundra?

I've always wanted a newer Tundra and now it looks like I've got the cash to maybe get one. I've been looking at low mileage pre-owned '07 and '08 Tundras in the $22K to $25K range but I started thinking that I might be able to get a brand new '08 thats been sitting on the lot. Do you think this would be possible at my price point? In particular, I must have the 5.7L engine, double cab or crew-max, foglights (might let that one slide), and alloy wheels. What are some tips on finding the best deal on a new Tundra right now? I've heard of some pretty good dealer incentives going on.

Thanks so much,

Wes

Not shopping for a truck right now, but in this tough economy nothing would surpise me. Bet you could get a heck of a deal on a dodge right now & it looks like GM in trouble big time, course Toyota is losing a boat load of money right now also. Just not selling many vehicles at this time, no telling what kinda bargains are out their.

I started out with the same frame of mind you have.. I wanted a truck around 25k or less with the same options you are are looking for.. Well the 08's with low mileage were scattered around and i had a couple to chose from but even those were close to 30 grand with everything included out the door..
I thought i could do a little better. Then i found a brand new 09 radiant red dbl cab "grade package" WITH the 5.7L and a few other options for list 32.5k. It was located in Rochester NY and one of the last few available in western NY.
After a few days of bidding back and forth he let it go for 26.5k so everything included out the door was under 30 Grand which was my goal.
Sure theres a few options i really wanted but didnt get.. Those stock wheels on the Grade package are gawd aweful ugly! But avoiding the SR5 and TRD packages saved me a bunch and i still got the big engine and some nice options.. I suggest you look for remanents of the 09's and you might get lucky like i did.. GL

So I'm thinking $25K might be a bit low to snag the Tundra I'm looking for new. I've seen several nice ones not too far from me with 10-15K miles on them in my price range. Sure would be nice to have a new untouched Tundra though...

Thanks for the replies,

Wes

I just went thru this, I was at the exact same price point as you and watched the used market like a hawk for 2 months and was working with several dealers in the Atlanta area on a new one.

I had a new 09 5.7 DC with steel wheels OTD for 23K with one guy and would look thru the AutoTrader and be able to pick out 6-8 low mile vehicles in the running. Then I watched it disentegrate, by the time I got my cash together that new one was gone, everything new I was working with was gone and I was down to 2 used trucks to choose from basically. I jumped on one this week, got a used 08 DC SR5 leather/JBL/towing/bedliner/cover, 19K miles for 23,250. +Tax & Tag. Very happy with it.

I just looked back at my autotrader and the 7 trucks I was tracking last week, 4 of them have sold including that sweet limited with the red rock I almost spent too much on.

There seems to be a lot more inventory in TX from what I saw so I would think you could get a new 5.7 DC with wheels for 25K or less, stick to your guns and hit em low.

Thank you everyone for your replies! Okay here's another question: When would the best time be to purchase a new Tundra within the next couple months? I know its hard to predict this due to gas prices but I've also heard about trying to buy at the end of the month and also that pricing/values will change with the release of the 2010 models. When are those supposed to be hitting the lots? I also forgot to mention that I'm willing to travel up to about 500 miles and I'm assuming that this will help me out with price.

Thanks again,

Wes
