Default Looking for a Crewmax

Greetings,

I recently handed over my 2006 4wd Tundra double cab on a lease return. I am now looking into purchasing a 2007-2010 (newer body style) Tundra Crewmax probably pre-owned my budget is around $25k. Do you think this is doable?

I noticed some dealers in my area still have 07 or 08 certified used CrewMax Limited they dont seem like they are willing to haggle on price (currently around $36k). I would have thought with the 2010 out they would want to clear them out. Having a Limited would be nice but it does not need to be. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Bump----

Forgot to mention, I plan on keeping the truck for a long time and not dump it in a few years.

Yes it's doable! Keep searching... they are out there! Try to buy at the end of the quarter... they try to get the numbers in for the quarter.

$25k is definitely doable as long as you're not looking for a 4x4...I haven't found many 4x4's going under $26k.

I am looking for 4x4 crewmax. If it's close to 26k I would consider it. Does anyone know any good websites to look for preowned Tundra's?

Finally picked one up today. It had everything that I wanted at least. It's a 2008 Tundra crewmax dark blue color, 4wd, power rear window, running boards, linex in the bed, 33k miles. I plan on getting the extended warranty as well they are offeing on this forum.
I paid $23,999 + Tax for the truck .......how did I do price? Did I get ripped off?

How could you tell if this an SR5 model? It does not have the SR5 emblem on the door but the car fax report said it was an SR5 model. I need to get a keyless remote for the truck am I just better off ordering it from Toyota than trying ebay remotes they have listed. Here is a pic from the car dealers place. I will have more once this rain stops here.

Congrads on your new purchase !!!!
Use your VIN....

Here’s what the letters and numbers in your Tundra’s VIN number represent:
FIRST THREE CHARACTERS:
The first three characters of your Tundra’s VIN number indicate where your truck was built.
5TF - Truck was manufactured at TMMTX
5TB - Truck was manufactured at TMMI
FOURTH CHARACTER:
The fourth character of your Tundra’s VIN indicates the body type.
J - Reg. Cab 2WD
K - Reg. Cab 4WD
L - Reg. Cab 2WD Long Bed
M - Reg. Cab 4WD Long Bed
R - Double Cab 2WD
S - Double Cab 2WD Long Bed
B - Double Cab 4WD
C - Double Cab 4WD Long Bed
E - CrewMax 2WD
D - CrewMax 4WD
FIFTH CHARACTER:
The fifth character of your Tundra’s VIN indicates the engine.
U = 4.0L V6
T = 4.7L V8
V = 5.7L V8
SIXTH, SEVENTH, & EIGHTH CHARACTERS:
The 6th, 7th, and 8th characters in the VIN indicate the trim level of the truck.
521 = Base
541 = SR5
581 = LTD
NINTH CHARACTER:
The 9th character in the VIN is used as a check digit.
TENTH CHARACTER:
The 10th character in your truck’s VIN is the model year. It’s either a number or letter, depending upon the decade. For 2007, it’s the number “7″. However, in 1997, it was a “V”.
ELEVENTH CHARACTER:
The 11th character indicates the final assembly point.
S - Indiana
X - Texas
LAST SIX CHARACTERS:
The last six numbers of the VIN are used by Toyota to uniquely identify your vehicle, sort of like a serial number. However, these numbers do not appear to be sequential or numerically significant. Toyota seems to have a unique system for numbering cars - they don’t seem to be marking them 000001, 000002, 000003, etc.

Thanks, for the info it turns out to be an (541 = SR5). Would you know if the dealer is the best place to get the keyless entry. I heard they are kind of pricey and then need to be programmed.

As far as what I paid for the truck I think I did ok.......

That seems like a pretty good deal to me. I wish there were some like that around here...all the dealers want $28k+ for that same exact vehicle.

What was their listed original price? How/where did you find it?

I was checking daily on craigslist, ebay and cars.com. I found the listing for the same vehicle on both cars.com and craigslist.

It seems a little high on the miles for an '08 but that's still a really good price IMO. What was the Edmund's TMV on it or KBB if you researched that?

I checked Galves Market ready price on this truck with the same options and mileage was around $22,650 which is wholesale price. So I thought my price was not bad. No, I did not check KBB or edmunds.

If you are looking for keyless entry only, I'd just go to an independent and get it installed there..... Check prices for alarms, keyless entry and remote start and see which package suits you best....

Not that high in miles if you consider, an 08 could be purchased as early as August or September of the previous year and held for several months into 09. If you average a relatively low 1000 miles per month you could be at over 20K for a 1 year old truck, which will make it seem like a very high-mileage vehicle when it's not. If you take a few long road trips, do lots of recreational driving on the weekends, or have a longer commute, 30K plus seems very doable on a 1 year old vehicle depending on when in the year it was purchased and traded. My first truck was an 04 purchased in October 03. I thought it was cool to have next model year's truck but realized it can end up having a somewhat 'unattractively disproportionate' amount of mileage on it if you trade it within a few years, even if in reality in reality it isn't driven as much as the mileage indicates. You may already have a few thousand miles on it before you actually enter that model year. My 09 Crewmax was purchased in March. I drove it 1000 miles continuous within that first week and will drive it 1000 miles continuously in another few months, as well as daily short hops, but should still be well under 10,000 miles for the first year.

To the OP: Seems like an excellent deal to me but really what matters is could you comfortably afford it and were you happy with the deal. I bought my 09 SR5 5.7 4x4 for 33K out the door before trade so you got 10K off for an amount of mileage and use that's probably nothing for a Toyota.

After the sale is DEFINITELY not the time to worry about whether you got the best possible deal. Just doesn't serve any useful purpose. You came in under what you were planning to pay and got an awesome truck. Nothing else really matters. Time to focus on the modding and the driving and not so much on the numbers.
