Exactly the same issues I had in Charleston. Car salesman is right above felon of what I would want my sons to be. Really like my Tundra but the dealership pain is to much. Probably back to Ford F series my next time around.
You took enough time out of your day to write quite a long post here and 5 hours to screw around with the pushy salesman. You really should call Toyota head office and let them know. A lot of people complain about what a rip off some Toyota dealerships are but they are willing to come back for the product. Sadly I would be willing to bet less than 10% of people who have bad experiences dont ever actually call to complain properly. If Toyota got a call from even half the people who had complaints they would realize how big of a problem their dealerships really are for their business.
What would be really nice is to see someone from Toyota head office have a read through this forum and read some of the crap that people have had pulled on them at dealerships. Do everyone a favor Doc and formally complain.
Geez people, ease up on the Doc! Lot's of people rant on this forum, it's kind of the point isn't it?
I have been in the Doc's same situation. Terrible salesman that poorly represent the dealership and the manufacturer. It does leave a bad taste in your mouth. If you live somewhere like me, where the nearest competing dealership is 100+ miles away, it makes you want to move to a completely different brand, so not to deal with warranty and service issues if you buy it elsewhere.....
Doc, I would have referred you to CarsDirect or Costco as well. I have used CarsDirect, and it worked fantastic. Good luck!

Funny thing about car salesmen, they move from dealer to dealer to dealer... maybe you'll get lucky and he will be at the Ford dealer next, so buying what you "really like" will be easier next time.

Actually I'm thinking about stringing a $20 bill to my bumper, tow it about 20 feet behind my car, and drive through the dealer's parking lot, see how many salesman I can catch. It would be kind of like trolling for bass, lol. Great video by the way, lmao!
Yep, it's all in the dealership you go to. I have NEVER had a problem with Prestige of Kingston. I have bought 3 Toyotas from them and plan on buying my next one there also. The thing that makes me the happiest with them is their service. They NEVER try to rip you off, or tell you that you need work, that you really don't. I even had my F150 serviced there.
Shop around and find a dealership that will work with you. Don't settle on a truck that is 2nd choice just because you had a bad experience with one dealership. Buy the truck that you really want. These Tundras are NOT perfect, but they are a LOT better than the others.

So I've been test driving the Ford F150, 250, Dodge Ram and Toyota Tundra the past week, finally deciding on the Tundra. The local dealership had one I liked, crewcab 4X4, sunroof, white with brown interior, nav etc. I drove it again two days ago to make sure the tundra is what I wanted. The salesman manager pushed me to take it home to test drive it the day I drove it and I said no I would come back with numbers. He pushed hard for me to buy it that day, even going as far as saying he would show me the invoice and sell it to me for $500 over that. I couldn't help but laugh at his "pushiness."
I called yesterday and told the salesman I was going to take him up on his offer of driving it overnight. I spent a few hours on the internet looking at edmunds, Kelly Bluebook for the invoice prices on the tundra, incentives, and value of my BMW X5. I went to the dealership after a long day at work, put feeding my sons on hold, and the same manager wanted to talk numbers. I said okay and I showed him my numbers on the invoice, their incentives, which he claimed to know nothing about, and the kelly blue book on my vehicle. They inspected my vehicle, which is in great shape, low miles, and is paid off. Then he refused to show me the invoice and over about 20 minutes never went below about $2000 over tundra invoice and that includes the $2000 incentives to the dealer and $500 military (army reserve) discount. I didn't budge but couldn't help laughing at this guy when he said "you're a doctor, I'm going to make a lot of money off of you!" Then when I refused to negotiate he refused to let me drive the truck overnight. I asked him if he needed my number if he changed his mind and he said no because he wasn't going to change his mind.
Now ultimately I'm laughing at myself. I'm the idiot for wasting my time with these clowns. I spent a total of about five hours and it won't happen again. I'm leaning more towards a Ford F250 now. It seems like I read how Toyota posted their first profit loss in history recently, how their having their workers in San Antonio go plant flowers for the city because there is no work at the plant, how they've halted any expansion this year, and how they've shut down some plants down from three shifts a day to one, and how their sales are way down every quarter.
I see more and more people standing on street corners begging for food, money, whatever. We have more and more bank robberies, about one every two weeks now, to the point people just walk in without a weapon and demand a bag of money. I see more and more houses up for sell. There is no industry in this area, no tourism, just government dependent state workers who don't make a huge salary but you always hear have "great benefits." But benefits don't buy cars. Several long term businesses including car dealerships have closed. Apparently this news hasn't reached the toyota dealer in Tallahassee Florida, hee haw hell.
The funniest part of the whole story is I had my checkbook and was ready to write a check for the whole amount of invoice. But it was worth the five hours of my time from working two hospitals and being a single dad to watch these two salesman performance. It was an impressive act, should be on Broadway.
Maybe it will work on the next customer.
I have bought over 100 cars & trucks for personal use. About 25% were Toyota products. I did flip some exotics within a few days, weeks or months of purchase .... especially during the dot.com boom when money was everywhere.
However, I did have to go through over 100 deals in the "buying from a dealer buying process". Some were good and some were bad and some were real bad .... but I never lost sight of my target (the vehicle that I really wanted).
With any manufacturer .. you will have some ... "not so great people" ... and some ... "not so great products".
It just seems that Toyota (as a company) has kept their ... "not so great people & products" ... to a minimum.
And Toyota/Lexus has an even a better track record of weeding out the bad eggs and bad products.
I would not belittle the salesman ... they are just trying to sell a unit. If I don't like the salesman's style, I just leave.
If you get a bozo at a dealership .... just go on the internet or to another dealer and get what you want at a price that you want to pay.
Good luck ...

Reason: typos
Donīt let the dealer spoil your Tundra experience - Truck is worth it (w/t 5.7 engine) Playing 3-4 dealers against each other via internet or phone will get you the best deal without hassle. Or try jimbarkley.com, even if you donīt buy from them, local dealers often match their prices.
I didnt have any problems with my salesperson, I knew what I wanted to pay (invoice minus incentives), had my financing pre-done through my bank. I walked in to the dealership after finding the truck I wanted minus the color (however, black and Radiant Red topped my list), saw the dealer inventory, walked in, said this is my price, I can walk out of here with a truck or no truck. The only thing that threw the monkey wrench into the mix for me was the truck had the TRD package (yeah yeah yeah, I lurked 8 months to know it wasnt worth it). Needless to say, the salesperson saw a quick sale, and met my price (TRD package @ SR5 price minus incentives). The manager didn't see it our way, tried to stonewall the deal. I put the cashier's check back in my pocket, told the manager to have a nice day and call me if they wanted to deal. End result was, manager now saw a quick deal, salesman saw quick deal, and I walked out of there with new truck at what I thought was a fair/good price. All parties were happy.
Money talks, if the dealer doesnt see it that way, walk away and find someone who does. This is a business, they aren't enthusiasts, they dont care if they sell a prius, a corolla or the tundra. Find someone who speaks money and deal with them. No sense in wasting your time or theirs.
Don't get me started on the shyster that tried to sell me a Titan......
Being that youre a reservist you could also use the USAA car buying service. They actually undercut even that price for me when i bought my 09 CM 5.7. after they threw in some little accessories and a free first 5k mile service i couldnt really say no . better luck next time but dont let a jackass salesman ruin a great brand for you.
