Default from 03 to 05 tundra?

what should i do? i really like the 05 with the new trans and vtec, but ill end up eating alot of money if i sell it or trade in my t3 wont i? ,any other suggestions, my transmission seems to confuse itself sometimes and the added horsepower without the sound of hell bursting from the exhaust pipes ,headers ,and intake is comforting ,all opinions are welcome

I had the same concern and called my dealer who has always shot me straight. His opinion was that for the difference it would take to trade (even selling your 03' outright) and cashing out an 05' it would not be worth it. He said the new engine (not really new but altered) and the 5 speed would not yeild the performance difference over an 03' that would justify the cost difference. He believes Toyota is going to redesign the 06' significantly and that would be the time to trade. Although I don't want any first year model run of any manufacturer-aka-Titan. If you wanted to do this, however, waiting until the end of the 05' model year would probably be the most cost effective time to trade plus they make continous improvements all along.

Ill make it very clear Toyota is going to make a ground up new Tundra however the date is unclear expect to see this truck along 2006 or 2007 the lastest but as far as a trade is concerned i wouldn't even attept to trade for the 2005 because Toyota is on the verge of something intirely new yet ill wait a year or two intill the bug's are worked out.I too will trade out my Tundra on the next generation truck however this time around i am getting a white one with bigger wheel's

If you're wanting the 4.7vvt-i and the 5speed auto , I can tell you that the drivetrain is better than I expected. Very responsive and powerful engine, and the tranny shifts down quickly and is very smooth. My new Tundra goes from 0-60 in a big hurry, feels like a sports car. There is also many other improvements in my 05 AC like the seats are very supportive and comfortible, new gauges, plastic gas tank, more safety features, better fuel milage, new alloy wheels, improved brakes, freshened head and tail lights.

Improved brakes not really same old one's currently found on the 03 access cab and still no 4 wheel disk yet

Plastic gas tank if i recall my Tundra currently has a plastic gas tank too?

More safety feature ? Naw just a new host addition of a side impack airbag added to d/c models and 2 headrest added on access cab's in the middle rear row and front seat (beach headrest) beyond that same equipment as before with the addition of factory navigation system if you say it's safety or a toy to play with .The new freshened headlight's and tail light's can easily be tailored to any Tundra model(The front end still is getting rather dated and need's a freshing or new model)

The Fuel milage acheived of 1 to 2 mpg on the vvti iforce addition is no big deal old engine with revised techlogy (but love the power assocaited with it 283 horsepower) I still would very much like to see the new hybrid synergy drive v8 coming soon on a Tundra .

*** COMMENT ****

"...same old brakes..."

The 03 Tundra AC V8 has the shortest stopping distance of any truck in the U.S. 60-0 is 120 feet. That's Corvette territory.

if the redesigned 2006 tundra doesnt debut as a 2007 model ,that would mean another year after the 05's should bring other improvements, maybe hybrid or something else, when is the last year for our model tundras, anyone know? is 05 the final year of offering for the current model, anyone have anything definite. i actually like the current model tundra, the new one would be much bigger and more american, less economical, size, engine, weight. 5 speed is a huge improvement, its not minimal at all, considering the fact that many present vehicles lack it.the tundra has the most sophisticated truck engine to date, 32v dohc,vvti,ect-i,nothing old about this engine, mated to a 5 speed. i love this truck, that is why im willing to comprise.

The new model Tundra will be 2007 coming out sometime in 2006.That means this current improved Tundra will be a 2006 since Toyota does not change anything in the model year before the redesign.
I bought the 05 AC SR5 V8 because the next gen will be too big, too heavy and probably slower(because of weight). Also with the next gen if you want the bigger motor (5.3-5.6l) you will have to pay premium for it.
Also the 05 should be almost perfected since TMMI has been building them since Dec. 1998.

the current improved tundra with the 5speed is being advertised as a 2005 model not 2006,the 2006 model as you said will be advertised as a 2007 model, meaning 05 is the last of the current offerings? would you pick a 05 tundra 2wd sport package over a 05 tacoma 2wd sport package?if so why if not why? i know the tacoma has a much better frame and suspension setup...

Dec 98 is wrong Toyota didn't make the tundra intill May or June 1999 as a 2000 model year truck at priceton..The t-150 came out around march 1998 as a concept model but Toyota ditched the name because Ford didn't like the name so the name "Tundra was phased in". Also the new Tundra is not using premuim fuel the remours on this is untrue . Premium unleaded fuel is recommended for V6 models Tacoma for optimum fuel economy and performance for the tacoma yet it also states that reg fuel is also ok too http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/2005/...ouble_cab.html
I'll provide some new information on site on the Next generation Tundra soon as my friend Let's me review it usually i get the head's up on upcoming product's from toyota just like i did on the 2005 tundra with vvti and mentioned this on site. For right now i am intrested in the overall development of the all new tundra for 2006.Toyota plans to replace the Tundra with a completely redesigned, larger truck that will be built in San Antonio Texas plant . A three-quarter-ton truck and diesel power may follow as well as a gas hybrid synergy drive v8 that is soon to follow on the next truck...

Just test drove a 05 2wd sr5 v8-vvti with 5 speed auto.

first impression:smooth, shifting was unnoticed, acceleration was across the rpm range opposed to innitial pickup at slightest pedal touch like the 03's 04's.

compared to my t3 with jba headers, trd duals, and aem intake, i must say it will put the 05 to shame, ive concluded that im keeping my t3 and never looking back untill the new models arrive. i dont know why,but the 05 seemed slower even compared to my stock t3 with the trd duals, the salesperson who sold me the t3 also noticed that and pointed it out,he also said "mannnn, you gotta nice truck, keep it!" i must say the 05 seemed more well mannered acceleration wise, and less agressive, but it probably is more refined and advanced.i did not notice the lower gearing in the 5 speed,i thought my stock t3 had a better pull in first gear, and the salesman and i compared the two actually driving both trucks. i finally have enough closure to put the hype to rest, not a big enough improvement to change my existing truck!
