Got an interesting "private invitation" from my dealer the other day. Offering great trade in values on "wanted" particular models (such as my 04 DC). Promising rock bottom prices and trade, in addition to rebates. Sounds interesting, but puzzling.
My question is: other than the HP and 5 speed, what are the other main differences? And should I trade (even if they promise "no increase" in payments, etc.) Other than adding another year to my payments, it sounds tempting to check out.
Anyone out there trade up to this? Should I wait for a better update on the Tundra?? Thanks.

I just bought a Tundra this past weekend and there are CRAZY deals going on right now for the Tundra. Me personally, I would do it. The engine is awesome and it would be a new truck again for you. The kicker is when were you planning to get the NEW Tundra? If you were going to be satisfied with you 04 for a while and slowly get interested in the NEW model, then go for it. If you were watching the calendar because you want the first year of the NEW Tundra, I think it would make more sense to keep you 04. I know I haven't had the truck for a week yet, but I feel no matter what the NEW one is going to look like, I have the perfect truck for me and my family for a WHILE. Eventually I would get into the NEW Tundra, but my version is the perfect size and power for me. Hope it helps.
The dealer is not there to loose money. A dealership is an expensive business to run. Believe me,, you will loose money if you do it. Yes your payments may not change amount wise, but you will start out with a brand new loan. = Longer time to pay it off, because unless you put a lot of money down on your 04, you will be "Upside down." Meaning you either pay that amount in CASH or roll it into the new loan. Do the math. You will loose. Just a fair warning.
I like my 04. 11,000 trouble free miles. No squeaks or rattles. Just a nice quite Lexus like ride. I see no reason to trade and loose money for ten feet pounds more of torque.
My Tundra is a "keeper" and will soon be paid off. In the future, if Toyota does indeed make a 'Full size" 3/4 ton truck with a diesel engine option, I will sell my 01 Dodge Cummins powered truck and buy one.

I second that motion... !
Hey touc,
Why get into an '05 DC, when in less that 2 years, the ALL NEW tundra "should" be out anyway! Besides, you'll almost have your DC paid-off by then and I'm sure, that'll certainly give you the "upper-hand" in trading-up to an '07... .
If I were you, I'd keep the '04. After all, it's not been proven that the vvti offers any better gas mileage with the 5-speed tranny. So far, reports that I've read here on the boards at TS.com, it's only been about 1 MPG better than the '04! Is that worth an extra year of payments, to get yourself into an '05?! IMHO... "NO"! As for the 40 extra horses... I'd doubt you'll ever see 'em or feel 'em, in everyday driving.
Just my .02 worth...

My take on it is just wait and enjoy your 04. Cost of a new ride out weight the benefits you will get out of the 05. Put headers on your 04 and you should be close to the power output of the 05's. But then again if you have the urge and money is no object, I say go for it. Life is to short to be waiting around.

Okay, let's really take a look at this before you all go bashing the dealers again. IF where you are you can get the $2,000 rebate that we are getting in the SET district right now on the 05 and IF you can get the 1.9% financing for 60 months that we can also get in the South East and IF you really love your truck and want a double cab for 5 more years and IF they give you clean book on your truck against say $100 to $500 over invoice, then I would say go for it! I know that a lot of "ifs", but those all add up to significant savings. I especially say this if you might want a different color or some different options. If you have already made some spendy type mods on your truck it might not be worth it unless they are easily taken out and moved to the new truck. The dealer will NOT give you extra money for modifications.
Yes, you will have another year of payments but you will also have a year newer truck when the loan is paid off. A 5 year old truck is worth more than a 6 year old truck. You will also get the 5 speed auto (it'd butta smooth) and the VVTI motor. I have driven both and own the 05 so I might be a bit bias but the 05 is VERY nice to drive with the improvements.
I know this is a lot of IF's, but you have to weigh out what you really want. As far as the "BIG SALE", you can get a better deal just by finding the right rebate and finance rate, and then working the dealer to the right number. You will also get more individual attention if you don't fall for the "BIG SALE" BS and go when there is no sale because they are not trying to blow through so many people trying to find a buyer who will buy right now.
It really might be worth looking into, just remember not to get caught up in any "hype" like "this offer ends today" or "you will never get a deal like this again". If something doesn't add up, then walk away. Remember, there are lots of new Tundras rolling off the line everyday, and don't ever let the dealer tries to convince you "this is the last one like this",(If I ever heard this come out of a Salesman or Sales Manager's mouth, I wouldn't walk away, I'd run like hell!).
Now I have no idea what you pay for your truck now or what your payments are but I am going to give you a good example of how things can differ with rebates and lower finance rates. Say you buy a truck and after all is said and done it costs you $25,000 out the door and you are going to put $2,000 out of your pocket as a down payment. This means you are going to finance $23,000. Now lets say you get a standard % rate for decent to good credit of 7.99% for 60 months. This adds up to your payment being $466.25 making the total paid $27,975 over 60 months. $4,975 of this is INTEREST PAID to the finance company (and you guys think the dealers make a lot of money! sheesh!!) Now lets do the same truck for $25,000 only this time you don't have to put $2,000 down out of your own pocket because you can use the rebate of $2,000 for the down payment instead! Now, let's also assume that you have good enough credit to qualify for the 1.9% financing offered by SET (JM&A World Omni) right now. This time you have actually kept your $2,000 in the bank and you payment is $402.13 making the total paid after 60 months being $24,128. This means you only paid $1,127.80 in interest over the 60 months!! Is it worth it? Yes sir! The actual difference that you pay between the two trucks at exactly the same out the door price is a BUNCH! Try $5,847 for the same vehicle!! This is the $2,000 you kept in the bank and the $3,847 you didn't pay for the higher interest rate. The only difference is the $2,000 rebate and the 1.9% finance rate but it adds up to a whole bunch!
In other words, it doesn't ever hurt to check things out, the new 05 is almost the same truck as you have, only it's a year newer, has 42 more HP and the smoothest transmission I have ever had the pleasure to drive. IF you can get a great deal, a juicy rebate and a smokin' finance rate, I would do it in a heartbeat! Also, IF you can't get the specials I'm talking about where you live, with the kind of difference in price you can get in the SET district, it might be time for a trip to Disney World, and then you can drive your new truck home! Heck you might get a great vacation and lower your payment!!
