Default Trade an '04 DC LTD for '05 SR5 AC Lease Special?

I am thinking of trading my '04 DC Ltd. on the lease deal that Toyota has going on thru tomorrow ($279/mo./36mos. $1850 down for an AC SR5).

It's not that I don't love my DC, it is just that it is SO-O-O nice I hate to use it for anything besides transportation. My wife just griped at me for having mulch delivered instead of filling the bed up with it (I have Line-X on the bed too). When I go to the lumber yard I lay a piece of carpet across the top of the tailgate so I don't scratch the plastic tailgate guard!

If I would lease the AC I would not be afraid to use it for what it was intended. It would also give me more room in the garage. My previous truck was a 2000 AC Ltd., Thundergrey, which I bought used, so I wasn't afraid to "use" it. It was a great truck too! (Maybe I should have kept it).

I'm kinda excited about having the 282hp. and 5 speed auto in a smaller truck. Better mileage and quicker.

The payment would be the same and if they give me good $$$ for my DC, then I would be cashing out around $17,000. I could pay off my '04 S2000 and our budget would then allow alot more "play" money.

Then when the lease is up the next gen. of Tundras will have all the bugs sorted out and I'll probably want to get one of them.

Am I crazy for thinking this way or what?

I just hate leasing. I had a lease...once...and its the last lease I'll ever have. I own my tundra outright and I love the feeling. Leasing a truck just isn't the same, IMO...I always felt like I was driving someone else's truck.

I'd love to have your DC and maybe in another year or so (when it's a little more "used") you won't mind abusing it a little more. Then you'll have a few years of reliable usage while the bugs are worked out of the next gen Tundra.

When you finally trade, you'll actually have something to trade, instead of getting the numbers worked over on you by the dealer, on the leased truck (am I slightly bitter?).

Just my opinion.

I trade you my '02 AC with 39,700 miles on it and some cash? I am paying my Tundra off in two weeks and am looking for a 4 door with our new son. The wife thinks it is hard loading him in and out of it (has 33 inch tires and the Daystar 2 1/2 lift kit). My truck is black, TRD and is well well taken care of.

To each their own, but, a lease is the worse thing you can do for a personal ride, IMO. Too much BS associated with leases. Turn it in, in 2 or 3 years, fully used as a truck with high mileage, and watch the costs. I look at it as financial management. Better to purchase and never turn over a vehicle every 2-3 years, unless you have money to burn. Too many other ways to invest instead of pouring money into changeovers, as in, no return on investment. I like to look at the bigger pic, but, that is just my style. I do spend money on mods, because my 2000 Toy was paid for a long time ago. The amount of what was a monthly payment before, is always invested. Disciplined approach?? Just my .02.

If you decide to "lease", keep this in mind. The Tundra is gonna' change dramatically (I'm thinking) in '07. That said, if there are ANY similarities to the TRX, FX (i.e. the concept truck), or whatever it's called, you may want to consider "keeping" your DC, as IMHO, anything that looks like that "concept" truck is freakin' UGLY!!!

Default keep it

Keep it or trade it in on at 2005 DC. Go buy a 500$ chev/ford/dodge that you can beat the crap out of for hauling mud, stone, sand, whatever. I myself rarely use my truck as a truck. I use it to haul my travel trailer, but very rarely load it up with bricks etc.

Utility Trailer. Take all the money you will lose in this lease deal and put towards a nice utility trailer. Cheap to insure & maintain too! After that purchase, you'll still have enough $$ left over to go on a nice vacation in the 04 DC that you are paying for & will "own" in the end.

A lease has some advantages. A 2 year lease will always insure that you will be ridng around in a new truck & when you trade just hand them the keys & you drive out with that 06 you've been dreaming about. I have a 2000 foremans work truck & beat the hell out of it. Lots of minor body damage etc. So you never lease when you do this. But to lease a truck for pleasure & show & pull your camper it can be a good deal. When are the 06's coming out? Coal Miner

The utility trailer is a great idea. I thought of it yesterday and found out a friend of mine has a 2 year old 5'X8' that he paid over $600 for that he will sell me for $400. I just need to find a place to store it. Our sub-division has an association and they have rules about parking one in your driveway or in your yard. Can't even park a camper or a boat in this neighborhood. DAMN rules!
Anyhow I'm keeping my DC. I should have been slapped for even thinking about getting rid of her.
Thanks everyone for your advice!

I don't think you can ding up a leased truck and not expect that the crooks will charge you for it in the end!

Look on ebay, they have trailers that fold up and take up very little space. I also thin Northern Equipment carries them also.

Why would an AC be OK to use as a truck and not a DC...and if you scratch it up and "use and abuse it" you will be socked in your lease upon return...stay with what you got and don't fret over tiny little scratches...ITS A TRUCK FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE!!! Avoiding mulch when you got Line-X is just down right silly...that stuff is tough as nails and I LOVE it!!!!.....LIVE A LITTLE....LIFE'S TOO SHORT TO WORRY ABOUT MINOR IMPERFECTIONS....no matter how careful you are some *^*$* will ding you in a parking lot anyway....it just happen to me...looks like someone backed up with a hitch and caught it under the right rear quarter and pulled away....pulled the fender out a little...I'll have to try and bend it back by hand...not too noticeable but I notice it....you get over it quickly.

I've heard of a couple of lease transfer sites that have been around since 2000 that might also help. Visit TakeMyPayments.com - Lease Trade, Transfer, Assume, Swap A Lease, or Takeover Cars, Trucks and SUVs
