There is no options on the limited Tundra in Canada.
According to my dealers specification sheets, the only option on a limited tundra doublecab is the sat/nav system.

I hope we will have the option of the 4.30 gears. They will work great with 35" tires!!

I am hearing from people, including another member on this forum, that a new Toyota can be bought in the USA and imported into Canada. I am also being told that the warranty WILL be honoured! And best and last of all, I have heard from some people that they have saved over CDN$10,000 on their Tundras!!!
It appears that after we get the vehicle to the border, all we have to pay is GST/PST, may have to pay for a broker if you so decide. No duties as it is made in North America. I am hearing that actually buying to Toyota from a US dealer (as a Canadian) may be a bit of a chore, need a US address or something like that.
Oh yeah - vehicle will need DRL installed

I would want the warranty thing in writing, I wonder if Toyota Canada would produce such a letter?

Yeah, the prices up here suck. For the price of a Tacoma here, you could get a Tundra down there. I know some people who have imported vehicles from the states, and have saved a lot of money. However, these vehicles were one to two years old, not brand new.

We also have less configurations to choose from up here. For instance the Tacoma double cab short box only comes with a manual tranny and the double cab long box only comes with the auto tranny. And, if you get the TRD package, you automatically get the tow package, which you have to pay extra for. Doesn't make any sense to me!

I haved searched the net, and can't find a government site that has to do with importing a "new" vehicle, they all talk about used vehicles.

As long as the used market reflects the same difference, I'm Ok with the price being higher. How do the other makes compare with Canadian pricing? Chevy, dodge, Ford ? Anyone know?

I priced out chev a while ago, it wasn't as big of a price differnece after exhange, maybe 15%-20%, where Tundras seem to be 20%-25% higher.

I suppose the best way to determine the price difference is an apples to apples comparison using Toyota's "build your own" software. Start with a base model, check to see what the standard features are in each country and go from there.

I noticed a block heater is standard in Alberta and LSD is standard with 4wd.

It could be as simple as a question of options and the costs for things like transportation.

True, I think it largely has to do with the strenght of the economys, in 2000 Canada and USA were about the same, but since then Canada has been pulling away in terms of strenght, mainly due to Alberta. So strong economy means good vehicle market, therefore higher prices.

It could be that "Economies of scale" thing my Economics professor used to talk about. I can't remember the details, he was like the teacher from Ferris Buellers Day off, watching paint dry was more interesting...and at 7am I could barely keep my eyes open for the interesting stuff.

I'm curious how many Tundras are sold in Canada every year, my guess would be a small number, considering the percentage of truck market it has in the U.S.

If each dealer gets 5 Tundras, they can probably demand a high price, just because it would be more exclusive. Huge rebates and zero percent financing just wouldn't be necessary.

Yes, they are all higher. It called price fixing. I heard a report on CBC radio where a comparison between vehicle costs in the USA and canada showed for a $35K (Canadian) vehicle, the same vehicle was $6,000 cheaper in the US after all exchanges. There is a company in Sask (I think it was) who will buy it for you in the US and still save you thousands after the mods are done to meet Canadian requirements. ie: daytime running lights etc. The reason why the manufacturers are doing this ? they are getting away with it, yes all of them. This will only change when we won't stand for it anymore. I have a sister in NC, I think I will buy a new Tundra down there in her name and get it transferred somehow, I'm working on it.

I'm canadian, living in Montana for a few months. I just bought a Tundra and researched all of what you mentioned and can confirm all of what you mentioned. I have a US address though, and that was the first question every salesman asked me!

I just bought a used 06 DC 4X2 (5k miles) in South Carolina and imported it back into Canada. You do not need a U.S. address to buy used nor do you have to pay any state taxes. You will how ever have to pay GST and A/C tax plus a 197$ +GST brokerage fee (which includes your inspection at Canadian Tire) when you bring the vehicle through Canada Customs. The PST on the sale price is due when you register the vehicle and get yor provincial plates.

The whole process took 5 minutes @ US Customs, 10 minutes @ Canadian Customs and about 3 minutes at Canadian Tire.

26400 CDN before tax for 06 DC 4X2 DC with TRD, dual exhaust, running boards, over fenders and bed liner with full Toyota warranty.

Would the process have been that easy if it were new?? I read that linked site before, and I don't remember it addressing new vehicles specifically.
